Turri’s product designs have always been driven by a love of and respect for a sense of tradition. Yielding uncompromising quality standards, and a marriage between modernity and heritage, Turri exemplifies luxury in interior decoration. The brand has built an international reputation for Italian-made products over the last 90+ years they’ve been in the industry. In the last year, they renewed their focus on sleek craftsmanship and design through the people, places, and pieces they worked with and on. As the year ends, STIR enlists the brand’s lasting design presence throughout 2023.

1. People:

This year, the Ratio collection was debuted in collaboration with Toan Nguyen, a Paris-based designer. Paying homage to rationalism, it is an elegant upholstery furniture collection with a woven leather structure. The collection includes a sofa and an armchair along with a coffee table and a side table (with a metal skeleton and marble top).

2. Pieces:

The Riban collection, which debuted this year includes a coffee table and sofa designs. The sofa’s contemporary design is revealed through a play of surfaces, twists and turns: the outside becomes inside; the backrest becomes a seat; and materials alternate in a way that is as organic as it is logical. In the same way, the tables are designed with an organic, rounded line that defines the collection.

Another new collection in the Italian brand’s catalogue this year is the Roma collection which includes a sofa, coffee tables, a dormeuse and a TV unit. The simple design of each piece was conceived for timeless and sophisticated interior design

The Vendome set, which was debuted at Salone del Mobile 2023 includes a chest of drawers and a bedside table. Both are crafted in thermo-treated Eucalyptus, in juxtaposition with their metal perimeter. The set was designed by Matteo Nunziati, who has been associated with the furniture company since 2021.

Nunziati also designed the Net Modula sofa, which is a modular design and can be configured as a 2-seater, 3-seater, and 4-seater, with a base in Eucalyptus or walnut wood and available with leather or fabric upholstery. In 2023, they also presented a Net bed.

The Azul collection, designed by Paolo Navone added a bed and an armchair. The collection is defined by a velvet macro weave, which evokes the essence of fabric design.

Apart from the collections, Turri added a slew of sleek armchair designs to their extensive catalogue in the past year. A notable collaboration between Turri and Studio Gensler led to the creation of the Silhouette collection, of which the lounge chair is part. It features a U-shaped curvature which conveys a feeling of lightness, emphasised by the enveloping lines of the cushions.

The Madison Director’s chair’s sleek design takes inspiration from the characteristic look of a director’s chair, rendered in leather or fabric. While The Vine armchair’s design evokes the movement of swinging vines with sinuous wooden members and green upholstery.

The Bloom chair was reintroduced this year with a coarsely woven green chenille and dove-grey elements, instead of velvet. Its curvature offers all the comfort needed for moments of relaxation. Similarly, the Miller armchair, with a wooden back and conical legs was reintroduced with ochre velvet upholstery and a dark grey lacquered-wood finish.

3. Places:

A new interior project by Turri highlights the refined and contemporary aesthetic of a modern building in Berlin. The various pieces included in the space by Turri were based on a careful selection of materials, shades and textures to exude an elegant and welcoming aura.

Events to remember:

This year, Turri marked their presence with two booths at Salone del Mobile, celebrating tradition and modernity. The brand’s main booth, and ‘Turri Design’ showcased new and classic collections by Paola Navone-OTTO Studio, Matteo Nunziati, Giuseppe Vigan, Huang Quan, and others.

STIRred 2023 wraps up the year with compilations of the best in architecture, art, and design from STIR. Did your favourites make the list? Tell us in the comments!
