Boccaccio 7 Private house
In 2018 Dainelli Studio created an apartment in the historical centre of Milan, on Via Boccaccio, with refined interior design, well-balanced proportions and an overall sense of exceptional harmony among the parts.
The house – with an area of 230 sqm – incorporates certain typical features of elegant dwellings in the style of Vecchia Milano, formulating a space of interaction between past and present, in a particular dialogue of forms and materials, custom furnishings, modern vintage and décor icons from the 1960s and 1970s.
In this context, Dainelli Studio set out to preserve the existing historical and stylistic details, recovering articles of great charm like the solid wood flooring, the stuccowork, the cementine tiles and the original window frames, which have been restored, updated and highlighted through the use of sophisticated finishes and colours. Materials like marble and brass take on a new leading role in the combinations of bold, forceful colours – selected for some of the walls – and the natural hues of leather, nabuk and wood.
In the large, luminous living area two large cream-colour sofas stand out in contrast with a table in blue fabric, all designed by the architects Marzia and Leonardo Dainelli. The space is completed by a studio zone with a retro look, furnished with iconic design pieces like the Sacco chair by Zanotta in leather, the famous Thonet chair in steel tubing, a vintage desk from the 1970s and an etagere designed by the studio, which combines essential lines with the precious detail of a back in a brass finish. For the lighting, the architects pay tribute to some of the greatest Milanese designers, with the Toio lamp by Achille & Piergiacomo Castiglioni and the Pipistrello by Gae Aulenti.
The skilful combination of simple and refined materials also sets the tone of the dining room, which takes its inspiration from the bistros of Paris, but also from American diners. The custom table at the centre, with a top in white marble and a brass base, echoes the material selected for the door leading to the kitchen in minimalist style: designed by the studio, the door embodies the aesthetic sensibilities of the designers and their typical pursuit of unusual details capable of discreetly personalizing spaces.
The master bedroom plays with tones of black and white, with a colour accent supplied by the bespoke carpet from Sirecom Italia and a modern vintage bedside unit in rosewood. The night zone is completed by a large closet inserted within the architecture of the space.
For the children’s bedroom, the choice has gone to custom wardrobes and furnishings, produced by a historic woodworking shop.
WINDOWS AND DOORS:
The Eclisse doors mounted flush with the wall feature the elegant Raffaella handle in satin-finish chrome by Studio Olivari, while the large Internorm Italia windows (dealer Gorlini, Milan) with Salice natural brass handles capture light and offer a fine view of the city.
