With Ensemble, Mutina celebrates ten years of collaborative journey with Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec The project features a new edition of Pico and Rombini, great classics of the company, two new ceramic collections, Punto and Bloc, and a venture with a new material: Pico Bois, where the pattern of the Pico collection is declined on a wooden floor. “At the very beginning of Mutina, we didn’t really know how far we could get. Meeting Ronan and Erwan was amazing also because it allowed us to grow and understand clearly what we wanted to become. One day, Ronan told me that Mutina is and artistic and intellectual project. Indeed, the products designed by Studio Bouroullec perfectly express our essence,” says Massimo Orsini, CEO, Mutina.

These projects capture the essence of the research we have carried forward until now and are linked by a common thread: they can be combined with each other to create immersive interiors of strong aesthetic coherence.

The word Ensemble – together, in French – actually refers to the coherence of shapes and colours that characterised the projects realised by Studio Bouroullec, which are imbued with Brittany’s atmospheres, Ronan and Erwan’s beloved homeland. Furthermore, Ensemble perfectly embodies the constant exchange of ideas and thoughts on which the relationship between Mutina and the designers is built on. “Our relationship with Mutina is unique. It’s about passion but also enjoying ourselves, sharing ideas, sharing our love for cooking and even tennis,” reminisce Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec. “The most amazing thing is to see how all these collections blend perfectly, also when they are used together. They allow infinite solutions: the same element, matte or glossy, pink or green, evokes different sensations. The colour palette, paired with different ways of processing ceramic, provides great variety and coherence at the same time,” they share. This is one of the primary reasons why it has been chosen as the title of the catalogue which will be entirely dedicated to their collections.

The new collections and the re-editions of the already existing ones were recently presented at Cersaie 2021 at the Mutina Headquarters in Fiorano Modenese.

Pico

Pico was the first collection realised by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Mutina, as well as one of the greatest commercial success of the company. It’s a project dedicated to pure matter, powder and pressed minerals, which are the essence of ceramic tiles. The new edition features two new elements: Argile and Satin, both declined in the variants Up, with elevated dots, and Down, with sunken dots, naturals or in the shades red and blue.

Rombini

Presented in 2015, Rombini is a journey made of ceramic vibration. The collection developed through specific research of more than two years, which allowed to explore the world of colour and surfaces in an unprecedented way: the joint loses its importance, in favour of the surface in its entirety. The range of Rombini is enriched a new Extra Small format, declined in the already existing five shades, and a new glossy finish in the colours Blanc, Gris, Rose, Vert and Brun.

Punto

Punto is a new decorative element that has developed staring from the researches carried out with the Pico and Rombini collections. It’s a three-dimensional module with a bold design, specifically thought to be used on walls, finds its highest expression when installed on large surfaces. The palette presents five colours in matte finish (white, grey, red, green and blue) and five in the glossy finish (Blanc, Gris, Rose, Vert and Brun).

Bloc

Bloc is the new terracotta brick conceived to build architectural and decorative structures. It’s the result of a careful research about ceramic vibrations, carried out during these years. The four available shades – pearl, blue, red and grey – are declined in matte and glossy finishes. The holes can be left empty, creating vibrant plays of light, or filled with tube, a wooden accessory available in red and blue.

Pico Bois

With Pico Bois, Mutina produced its first wooden floor. The collection is inspired by Brittany’s houses, where it’s more common to use parquet than ceramic, as its shade and texture instantly give a sense of warmth to the environments. Pico Bois slats recalls the graphic motif of the original collection, made of blue and red dots that enhance the wooden texture.
