'Calypso' by Serena Confalonieri exudes a sense of sophisticated whimsy

Art Nouveau has always evoked a sense of elegance and fluidity. Inspired by nature's flora and fauna, these shapes often mimic the graceful whiplash curves of flowers, vines, and the gentle sweep of waves, reflecting a harmonious blend of artistry and the organic world. Inspired by floral Art Nouveau shapes, Milan-based designer and art director Serena Confalonieri has created the Calypso collection. The central idea is to investigate new ways of inspiring conviviality through objects.

Fed by the imaginary worlds, these tableware pieces make it possible to dream of exotic and uncontaminated landscapes. Calypso synthesizes with its shapes the dialogue between function and imagination, giving the idea of drinking from colourful and tropical flowers, creating an iconic table setting that refers to the natural world. The glassware collection takes its colour cues from the Art Nouveau posters reminiscent of Alfons Mucha. The product designs consist of a gentle and feminine colour palette that fades into delicate transparencies. 

Made with borosilicate glass, all the pieces from the collection are handcrafted in Italy. The collection includes; champagne flutes shaded in amber or blue with shades of pink; champagne glasses in amber with shades of pink; green martini glasses with a shade of blue; water or wine glasses, which come in a dual colour combination of green with shades of pink and blue and amber; and a bottle with cap/glass which are pink shaded with green, amber and blue.

The Calypso collection unveils a captivating fusion of modern design and timeless elegance. With a masterful interplay of colours, textures, and forms, the product designer breathes life into these creations, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of classic motifs.
