Ludovica+Roberto Palomba STIRred 2023 by uniquely blending purpose and beauty

Combining a broad knowledge of the historical and cultural roots of architecture and design with a contemporary vision, Ludovica+Roberto Palomba’s designs have always showcased a sensitive dovetailing of past and future. STIR showcases how the Italy-based studio’s furniture designs in the last year reflected their unique and personal approach with a particular focus on function and durability.

Pieces

This year, Roberto Palomba and Ludovica Serafini designed a collection of candle holders as a tribute to Sardinian ceramist Emilia Palomba. The collection debuted during Milan Design Week to celebrate the launch of the In Aéras candle by a lifestyle and experimental skincare brand Made in Sardinia. Each candle is contained within a terracotta vase made exclusively from waste clays, showcasing an approach in line with circular design principles.

The Italian design studio added new pieces to their furniture collection Velasca conceived in collaboration with Punt Mobles. The pieces they designed in 2023 include a desk, a bench , a lamp, and a rug

The lamp is designed to provide soft lighting for interior spaces with a seemingly Japanese-inspired form, while the rug recalls the authentic Japanese tradition of the Zen garden, giving the impression of walking on a natural element.

The duo also designed individual furniture pieces for 4 Mariani including the Sella chair. The executive armchair design’s name reflects the shape and texture of horse saddles. The sinuous silhouette highlights the excellence of artisanal workmanship on an industrial scale.

The Siena desk for 4 Mariani is an executive desk characterised by its essential and sophisticated design. Showcasing a play of geometries, lines, and proportions, the desk emphasises the presence and excellent processing of natural materials such as the rigorous Macassar Ebony wood and black leather.

Collaborating with Foscarini, the studio designed a lighting system, Hoba. Inspired by a meteorite that fell to Earth, Hoba translates the perfect imperfection of a handcrafted object into an industrially produced lamp. The new collection is a complete line of lamp designs available in suspension, table, wall, and ceiling versions in midi, medium, and large sizes.

Another notable collaboration with Kartell resulted in the creation of the HiRay collection of outdoor furniture. The set was launched at Maison&Objet in the Italian brand’s Paris flagship store.
