Creativity and research are the fundamental driving forces behind Inkiostro Bianco’s designs. Each one of their collections of decorative surfaces is the result of a continuous exploration of narratives and a quest to allow patrons the chance to enjoy the beauty within their lives. Each design also represents a collaboration between the brand and the people they design for. This year, STIR enlists how the Italian design company renewed its commitment to beauty and well-being through decorative surfaces that promised to enhance spaces through abundant motifs and simple gestures.

1. People

The luxury wallpaper brand collaborated with Italy-based architecture and interior design practice, Studio Pelizzari for three designs in their latest Flow collection: Stripwave, Sea of Clouds, and I Know This Place.

2. Pieces

Flow was one of two collections debuted by the Italian brand in 2023. The collection is based on the notion of bridging the disconnect between the built and the natural. Wallpapers in the collection bring about a sense of balance between the two so that occupants can renew their connection to nature, hence bringing about a sense of well-being.

Some of the designs in the poetic collection include: Archscape Metropolis, Bossage, and Coffer mania which are architecturally inspired. The more nature-inspired patterns include: Aurea, Blue Rain, Ladylike, Sprinkle, and others.

Giorgia Ricci designs some of the more verdant, foliage-laden motifs for the collection including: Atocha, Dahlia, Lanzarote, Soulmate, and Volver.

On the other hand, Irene Martino abstracts nature in her designs for a more contemporary look. Her motifs include: City Jungle, Floral Rhythm, Geometric Dance, Marine Sound, and Ocean Symphony.

The Goldenwall collection is quite unlike Flow. Geometric patterns and dreamy imagery inform its designs. The series proposes a mixture of elements and graphic styles inspired by nature, both in its geometries as well as in its most fluid aspects, giving rise to iridescent nuances thanks to the lustre of gold. Some of its designs include: Clorofilla, Fluidity, Rustyflower, Shibori, Indum, and Pointed among others.

This year, the brand also debuted its Inkbath System which claims to revolutionise a bathroom space with ease. The 'InkBath System' makes it possible to combine bathroom furnishing elements with wall decorations on EQ.Dekor fibre glass wallpapers or decorations applied directly onto sanitary ware. A line of combinable bathroom cabinets has also been envisaged with the possibility of customisation on the doors with the same graphics chosen for the EQ.Dekor fiberglass walls.

3. Places

This year, Inkiostro Bianco designed custom wallpaper for the Radisson Santa Sofia Hotel. The hotel, located in the heart of Milan exemplifies elegance through its interior design inspired by the typical atmospheres of Anglo-Saxon hospitality. The austere character of the building's exterior has been lightened by the decorative choices guided by a chromatic palette in shades of green. The Italy-based brand’s role involved offering consultancy in the development of the wallpaper decorations, which were made entirely ad hoc for three different areas of the hotel.

STIRred 2023 wraps up the year with compilations of the best in architecture, art, and design from STIR. Did your favourites make the list? Tell us in the comments!
