Award-winning British industrial designer Michael Young  will be presenting a stand at the much anticipated, inaugural edition of Design Mumbai in India from November 6 – 9, 2024. Based in Hong Kong, Young, the founder and creative director of Michael Young Studio and Michael Young Home, is known for conceiving exclusive, quality design services across an eclectic range of markets—from interiors to product design, homeware and technology. Art, design and manufacturing merge holistically in the creative eyes of Young.

Apart from his booth at the upcoming trade and design event at the Jio World Garden in Mumbai, Young will also be contributing to the Design Mumbai Exchange talks programme, alongside Samira Rathod (Indian architect and principal, Samira Rathod Design Atelier, Smita Thomas (designer-in-chief, Multitude of Sins) and Mansi Sahu (urban designer and co-founder, Studio Pod). The talk will be centred on the theme of 'The Serious World of Play'.

As the organisers relay, "The world is full of people playing games in private. It is also a world in which innovation in design for public play, both in the home and in the public realm, is a thriving antidote to our digital discontent and post-COVID isolation. Working across a range of disciplines to create human interactions, physical activity, excitement and joy, our panellists will discuss playfulness in their own work and how it allows them to create better environments and products."

The internationally acclaimed British designer is renowned in the creative industry for his pared-down aesthetic that transcends design by harnessing some of the highest and most innovative manufacturing skills to create 'industrial art'. Young's vibrant imagination and his continued ability to innovate lend fresher approach to the rich blend of East and West in his works, keeping it relevant and increasingly in demand across continents. "What interests me is design as 'industrial art', not just as a limited edition but on a scale of mass production," says Young.

STIR, as a media partner, will feature the best of designers, studios, brands and special projects to watch out for at the inaugural edition of Design Mumbai taking place from November 6 - 9, 2024.
