Italian industrial designer, Luca Nichetto, recently designed the visual theme for 3daysofdesign, an event held in Denmark every year. Comprising three comical characters, his designs reference several Danish icons. The trio serves as an animated version of a famous design, a typical Danish dish and an architectural landmark in Copenhagen respectively. The three pieces together offer a glimpse into what awaits designers and design enthusiasts at the event that is scheduled to take place from 15 June to 17 June 2022. “As a designer, play is a key part of my thinking process. Whenever I’m faced with a design dilemma, play opens up new possibilities. It sparks my curiosity and adds an element of fun to my projects and collaborative partners,” says Luca Nichetto.

Every year, the design festival collaborates with a designer to reveal an original visual theme for the event. Apart from serving to connect designers, it also adds to the anticipation of the festival. Nichetto’s visual design is cheerful, honest and open. The colourful and fun design serves the purpose of also lightening the mood after two heavy years spent in trepidation. “Play is important at crucial moments, as well as creative ones. Which perhaps makes play more relevant now than ever. Even in uncertain times, play can re-connect you with others and help you find joy in the everyday,” says Signe Byrdal Terenziani, Managing Director of 3daysofdesign.

The three caricatures were developed from drawings sketched by Nichetto. His illustrative style adds humour to the simplistic designs and encourages people to come and play with the offerings of the festival. By referencing iconic Danish features, Nichetto has ensured that the event, although international, does not cease to represent the country where it was born.

3daysofdesign, an annual design event held in Copenhagen, hosts a wide range of creatives and creations from the Danish design scene. Initially set up to platform Danish designers and promote them globally, it has now established itself as an event of international repute. The more recent editions of the event have hosted designers and architects from several other countries. A wide array of lifestyle, lighting, furniture and interior design products are displayed during the design event which is spread across three days. Several exhibitions, pop-up events, workshops, talk programmes and showrooms facilitate conversations between creatives and visitors during the event. Apart from granting views to myriad designs, the event also offers glimpses into Copenhagen’s pulse and personality.
