Part of the Brompton Design District at the London Design Festival this year, The Garden of Endless Design transforms Italian design brand Kartell’s London flagship into a blooming garden, from September 14 - 22, 2024. Kartell's immersive botanical display at the design festival in the UK celebrates its new furniture design launches, in collaboration with the iconic British department store, Liberty. "The Kartell x Liberty collaboration unites the iconic Italian design brand's contemporary lifestyle innovations with Liberty's 150-year legacy of timeless printed fabrics…The presentation aims to celebrate the talent, modern design and craftsmanship that has gone into the creation of the new collection," states the press release.
The partnership focuses on two key areas. First, it introduces outdoor fabrics for the Plastics sofa, Trix pouffe and Cara armchair. The main highlight, however, is the new H.H.H. – HER HIGHEST HIGHNESS chair design by Philippe Starck, which exudes elegance and grandeur, drawing inspiration from royal thrones. The Kartell for Liberty edition of the H.H.H. chair is crafted from recycled materials and available in six Liberty fabrics featuring vibrant floral patterns, based on three archival designs and five new colours chosen exclusively for Kartell. These fabrics will be expertly printed in Italy.
Staying true to its tradition of innovation, Kartell has developed a high-tech printing process called 'graphic impression'. This technique will produce four floral and geometric patterns in 11 colour variations, offering a modern take on Liberty prints that aligns perfectly with the Italian brand's vision.
Further, the Plastics sofa and Trix pouffe by Piero Lissoni, along with Starck’s Cara armchair are getting a fresh update with Liberty fabrics designed for outdoor use. These fabrics combine style with durability, ensuring strength in outdoor settings. Available in two geometric and one floral pattern, this collection offers a perfect blend of elegance and comfort for relaxed summer living. Each piece, from the sofa to the pouffe and armchair, becomes a refined addition to outdoor spaces. Complementing this, the Piazza tray features four colour variations of the 'Artemis' floral pattern, created using the innovative 'graphic impression' technique.
The installation on Brompton Road is part of a broader programme of events involving both brands during the design event. The Liberty flagship store will feature a special display on the fourth floor, traditionally dedicated to lifestyle and home décor, from September 14 - 22, celebrating this unique partnership. At The Garden of Endless Design, visitors will be able to relax in the Kartell space, while enjoying floral arrangements evocative of the exclusive Kartell x Liberty prints.
