Jaipur Rugs, the renowned Indian handmade carpet brand known for championing artisanship, proudly announces the launch of Dreamers, a compelling new collection of 15 pieces of wall art created in partnership with Chandigarh-based artist Gurjeet Singh. This collaboration marks a bold exploration of weaving as a medium for storytelling and emotional expression, redefining traditional craftsmanship through the lens of contemporary art.

"Our collaboration with Grujeet Singh is a true exchange between the artist and the artisans. The result of a residency where Gurjeet spent time in the Jaipur Rugs weaving villages in rural Rajasthan, they are collectible carpets that display complicated emotions as well as exceptional craftsmanship," says Greg Foster, artistic director, Jaipur Rugs.

Dreamers stands as a tribute to the artisans of Jaipur—a community whose life stories and silent dreams are woven into every thread of this collection. Through shared conversations, meals and personal stories, Singh immersed himself in the daily lives of these artisans, drawing deep inspiration from their resilience, struggles and aspirations. Each carpet design is a tapestry of emotions: yearning, freedom, ambition and identity. "In the lives of the artisans, I saw reflections of silent dreams and quiet resistance," shares Singh. "Artistic expression is deeply intertwined with emotion, serving as a direct reflection of personal experiences and feelings," the contemporary artist adds.

Known for his fantastical soft sculptural art made of richly coloured fabrics, Singh brings his unique, heartfelt perspective to this collaboration. His ongoing exploration of identity, societal structures and human vulnerability breathes new life into the traditional craft of hand-knotting. Each rug design is meticulously handmade by Jaipur Rugs' skilled artisans in Rajasthan, India, using a blend of cotton, silk and wool, drawing from centuries-old weaving techniques while incorporating vivid colours, dynamic forms and intricate motifs.

Signature pieces include Bahu Mukhiya, a commentary on double standards and societal facades, inspired by artefacts seen in Jaipur's local museums. The Story of Boogli and Her Mother is a poignant reflection on generational patriarchy and the invisible chains that bind women's dreams through the relationship of a mother and daughter. Additionally, Black Sun is a powerful metaphor questioning the search for freedom and light within structures of oppression.

Each product design represents a personal story, a hidden truth or an unspoken dream, inviting viewers to engage with the artisans' inner worlds. This collaboration underscores Jaipur Rugs' commitment to bridging heritage with innovation, fostering a platform where craft, culture and contemporary art harmoniously intersect.

"In Dreamers, art becomes a bridge between craft and contemplation, between the visible and the veiled. The collection calls not for admiration, but recognition. To honour the humanity of its makers. To hear the longing between the knots. And to remember: what lies beneath is often what holds everything together," as the brand relays.
