PROJECT Details

 

During CERSAIE 2014 / Bologna, the most important world fair about bathroom and its materials, Ito studio presented a design installation which is titled "Monstera | the backlit pavilion designed by SETSU & SHINOBU ITO”. For the occasion the studio presented new ways to use the mosaic, combined with the backlight technology. Monstera is a term that refers to an amazonian plant, that lives only with indirect sun light even if it cannot receive the direct light. In the same way, people are able to be strong and powerful even if they live in noisy and polluted cities. They expressed the natural world in contrast with the metropolis. They used a curved back wall with the backlight technology applied to the mosaic by DG Mosaic. DG Mosaic is a company that uses nanotechnologies to create extremely thin and small tiles, maintaining a very good resistance. Thanks to this technology that tiles allowed the team to create complex designs with a high grade of precision.
