Kartell Cafe - Costa Toscana
Aboard the Costa Toscana, Kartell is setting sail on its first Kartell Café project to promote the excellence, beauty, and uniqueness of Italian design around the Mediterranean. The Café, conceived by Ferruccio Laviani and completed in conjunction with Costa Crociere, is custom-made to suit the style and needs of the ship, with original furnishings combined with products from the Kartell catalogue, some in custom form. Kartell has drawn on a vast pool of creativity and versatility to offer the cruise-going public the best in "made in Milan" design and tradition and a full immersion in the Kartell Experience.
On deck 8, in a spectacular lounge with a semicircular view over the Colosseum – one of the ship’s most scenic gathering places – a carpet decorated with Kartell’s most recognisable and iconic designs leads into the Kartell Café and emphasises the custom design of the entire room. The 700 m2 lounge expresses the full potential of Kartell design, while the layout interprets the world of Kartell in the unique style of the Costa Toscana. Large, original sofas have been carefully selected to furnish broad circular spaces around the Café, using textures borrowed from the brand's most iconic products and reinterpreted in exclusive finishes and colours.
Philippe Starck’s Cara and Madame chairs are upholstered in 100% recycled and recyclable fabric made from yarn derived from waste plastic bottles. With sustainability in mind, even the Masters chairs are made from pure, uncontaminated recycled plastic waste. The lounge also contains Betty sofas by Piero Lissoni, Eur stools by Fabio Novembre, and Multiplo tables by Antonio Citterio. A host of Bloom lights by Ferruccio Laviani, in various sizes and colours, add character to the ceilings of the Café. Kartell furnishings are also present in other areas of the ship, creating a feeling of continuity through the decks. And anybody wanting to buy a design "souvenir" can do so from a cash and carry Kartell shop selling a selection of the brand’s products.
Kartell’s collaboration with Costa Crociere began with a furnishing project aboard the Costa Smeralda liner in 2019. Today the association is continuing in the name of beauty, design, and sustainability, core values that Kartell certainly shares with Costa Crociere. In confirmation of Costa Crociere’s commitment to responsible innovation, the Costa Toscana is the third of the group’s ships to be powered by LNG, currently the most advanced technology available for reducing emissions.
Kartell's creativity knows no limits and represents a strategic asset for the company in the contract sector, where Kartell’s flexible, creative approach and custom services allow the development of new solutions in many different areas. For Kartell, innovating is about finding customised, technologically innovative solutions that can grow in tandem with the creative propositions of top international designers. It is a process of evolution in which aesthetic research and function come together to give form to industrial products with a unique ability to offer original interpretations to the most varied needs.
