Norwegian Presence, Norway’s international design show that has regularly showcased sustainable designs by both prominent and up-and-coming artists and designers, will host its 2022 edition at a fresh new location in Brera, Milan from 5th April to 10th April 2022. The exhibition, hosted every year in the Zona Tortona neighbourhood during and as part of the Milan Fashion Week, will return this spring with a fresh and revamped vision at Galleria Milano. Part of this new vision includes an initiative called the ‘Material Lab’, which will be dedicated to telling the cultural stories that have shaped the Norwegian design identity.

“We are raising the bar with this year’s exhibition. Moving to Brera feels like a natural next step as we are now ready to take centre stage in Milan. We will be showcasing not only the best talent Norway has to offer, but also the forward-thinking manufacturers who have put readily available natural resources, clean energy, advanced technology and the (never underestimated) human touch at the very core of their production. This year’s show is not one to miss,” asserted Cecilie Molvær Jørgensen, director of the exhibition and former editor-in-chief of the Norwegian edition of the design magazine Bo Bedre.

The exhibition is organised in partnership with Design and Architecture Norway or DOGA, a foundation that promotes the influence of design and architecture in Norway by means of collaboration between designers, studios and businesses.

Norwegian Presence has annually been hosted since 2015, bringing together the products and prototypes of some of the most creative and innovative designers and manufacturers from all around Norway and presenting it on a global stage. While the 2020 event showcased the works of 10 designers dedicated to creating designs out of low-carbon materials like wood, aluminium, stone and paper, the 2021 event was hosted digitally.

The upcoming edition of the exhibition, scheduled to open under the artistic mural ceiling of Galleria Milano in Brera, has been curated and designed by the stylist duo Kråkvik & D’Orazio. Scheduled for April next year, the exhibit will showcase designs bearing references to Norwegian culture and ascribing to sustainable practices, serving as representations of the impact that Norwegian natural resources have had on the national design identity of the country. This will include some of the most respected names from the design and manufacturing industries and showcase sustainable design models that are utilised by them to produce conscious designs and products.
