The design studio was founded in 2017 by multidisciplinary designer Leah Ring. She draws inspiration from a range of sources including the boldly juxtaposed geometric designs by Memphis Group as well as the sheer randomness of outer space. Her designs appear like artworks, distinctive in their usage of bold colour combinations, transparency and geometrical shapes.

The Ferngully Collection, which was previously scheduled for launch during the New York Design Week 2020, has finally made its debut at INTRO/LA, a two-day exhibit at Mack Sennett Studios, Los Angeles. In addition to emulating the colourful and stimulating aesthetics that characterize Another Human’s designs, the collection has also drawn inspiration from the shapes of oversized lily pads, dewdrops and flower petals. But, instead of directly borrowing from the shape, colour and texture of these floral elements, the furniture pieces are only characterised by their rough geometries and follow a subdued pastel colour palette. This aesthetic appears both familiar due to its similarity to natural organic shapes as well as dreamy and fantastical due to its colour palette.

Bearing the ability to transport the viewer to a magical place, these furniture pieces hold the power to serve as utilitarian objects that accord the status of art to the spaces they occupy. The collection includes the Nectar Table, inspired by coloured dew drops gathering on a leaf; the Nymphaea lamp and pendant, inspired by giant water lilies; the Dionaea chair named after a carnivorous genus of plants; the Nepenthes Mirror, named after pitcher plants that reflect the water collected within; and the Space Time Etagere which serves as the vehicle to transport viewers to Ferngully itself.
