Multidisciplinary artist Jan Ernst focuses on practical art and spatial design. His fascination with organic forms such as corals, fungi, and rock formations serves as the inspiration for his work. His organic designs are the result of an abstract understanding of form and space that was shaped by his architectural training, his affinity for the natural world, and his South African ancestry. This philosophy also translates into the South African artist’s new work titled 'Chance and Chaos.' The ceramic wall mural is installed in a private residence in Seapoint, Cape Town, South Africa. It brings together the beauty of nature and the raw energy of volcanic eruption, creating a genuinely mesmerising, three-dimensional organic composition.

The mural art pays homage to the intricate patterns found in nature, the juxtaposition of tranquillity and turbulence often found there and aims to capture the essence of life's dualities. Crafted from white stoneware clay, and measuring an impressive two meters in length and one meter in height, 'Chance and Chaos' commands attention with its bold size and intricate detailing. Each curve and contour has been meticulously formed by hand, showcasing the studio's skill in translating the ceramic artist's inspiration into tangible beauty.

The clay art features an organic form influenced by nature's ambiguity and inconsistencies. Regardless of the title or source of inspiration, the installation's organic contours convey a sense of peace and tranquillity. The combination of exquisite details and distinctive textures results in a lively, moving composition.

'Chance and Chaos' ceramic design is not merely a mural, it is a statement that transcends traditional ceramic wall art and dares to merge imagination with reality. This installation inspires designers alike, encouraging them to explore old mediums and techniques in new ways to convey their artistic visions.
