For Milan Design Week 2019, Sara Ricciardi was asked to create an installation for the fabric company outdoor Serge Ferrari in the heart of the 5VIE district. After a first meeting at the group's headquarters in La Tour du Pin, near Lyon, France, Sara imagined and designed "L’île de Serge", a tribute to the company's production line: from the transformation of the raw polymeric material to the wire, up to get to the fabric. The project celebrates each phase of the production process for the company's outdoor range of technical fabrics, recreating them in sequential order, thus giving visitors a chance to discover the process as they go Street through the installation or while relaxing on the island. In a dense and harmonious atmosphere, the installation honours the high quality, great resistance and the unique comfort of these products, developed over years of in-depth research, L'île de Serge is an island of plastic, just like the plastic that we know well floats in Pacific - but was born as a tribute to a company that manufactures durable products, which responsibly provides to reintegrate in the production process, thus tending the life cycle and disposal e minimizing the environmental impact.

The island uses all the products from the outdoor range of Serge Ferrari, but is in dialogue with many natural elements, including water and plants, introducing delicate entities in the furnishings - because combining technology and nature is complex but fundamental equilibrium. In a society characterized by hyper-consumption and economic availability, sustainable solutions they must be valued because they help protect the environment with the ability to be long-lived. The colour choice shows an artificial landscape, like a 3D render, which is in a dialogue with living nature represented by plants. Natural and artificial tease each other. As human beings, we live necessarily in an artificial environment, but our choices of consumption can allow us to live in dialogue with the planet.

The island also lives digitally on Instagram with the creation of animated gifs that represent a digital nature that wants to take possession of the island - The gifs are downloadable via #ILEDESERGE and let nature reclaim itself of everything The soundtrack of the island was recorded starting from the sounds of the production chain sampled in the company during the first sopralluogo and Alfredo Donisi transformed them with his mixers and synthesizers. The rhythm of the machines blends with the natural sounds of exotic beaches, between industrial elements and chirps, waves and hoods for this electronic union. The atmosphere is completed by the scent of WATER thanks to the prestigious Dr Vranjes brand that I use an olfactory pyramid made of basil, marine notes and white musks makes the environment enchanted.
