Serena Confalonieri faces again the field of urban installations, this time in Fasano, in the heart of Puglia. In the streets of this small town, among its typical limestone houses, the Milanese designer creates “Flores Leves - I was born on the twenty-first in springtime”.

The new site-specific installation is a tribute to the Milanese poet Alda Merini and a celebration of the beginning of spring. It is installed on the building’s scaffoldings that cover the facade of Palazzo Carrieri, currently under renovation.
The artwork, inaugurated in Fasano on Saturday 19th of March and visible for two months, is part of Cantiere -evento, an art program conceived in 1993 by Gianfranco Dioguardi with the aim of transforming construction sites into urban communication and promotion tools. A new cultural model now promoted by the Dioguardi Foundation in Italy and abroad under the artistic direction of Francesco Maggiore.

The title of this artwork “Flores Leves” (the Latin for "light flowers") refers to the floral pattern designed by Serena Confalonieri and the lightness of the covering sheets moved with the wind. The installation, curated by Vito Lamberti and Francesco Maggiore, was built in collaboration with the students of the IISS Leonardo Da Vinci in Fasano, after a three days workshop lead by Serena Confalonieri.

The artwork concept takes inspiration from some typical elements of local crafts - such as lace and ceramics - and the designer transformed them into shapes created using the material texture of building sites covering sheet, thus assuming three-dimensionality and dynamism. The colors chosen and the linear elements that complete the decoration are instead a clear reference to the geometric abstractionism of artists such as Franco Grignani and Louise Bourgeois.

The lights installed inside the flowers illuminate the façade at night, transforming the work of Serena Confalonieri into a floral constellation that gives the historic center of Fasano with further magic.
