'The Swipe Bag' by Coperni gets a glass makeover by Heven

Swipe bags, designed by Heven in collaboration with Paris based accessories brand Coperni, are sculptural handbags that are fashioned out of glass and double as bold statement pieces. The idea for the Swipe bags was born when Breanna Box and Peter Dupont of Heven were experimenting with glass to create prototype wearables. In the same year, Coperni contacted them for a collaboration and the conceptual project became a real product worn by the likes of Hollywood celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Doja Cat. “We had a clear vision on some colours and details we would want in the bags. For the technical side, we worked with Josh Raiffe who is a friend of ours and an incredibly skilled artist who made this possible for us,” shared the designers of Brooklyn based glassware brand Heven.

Heven, founded by Breanna Box and Peter Dupont in 2020, is a US based brand operates with the intention of creating unique and innovative glassware items that ascribe to futuristic aesthetics. The sale of these products help the firm’s proprietors fund their film projects. Their large retinue of glassware items range from vessels, carafes and ornamental pieces to their latest experimentation in handbags. The studio also plans on designing furniture products soon.

The bags serve as an experimental attempt of creating wearable accessories using non-traditional materials. They recently debuted at Coperni’s Fall/Winter 2022 runway show in different colour variations. They mimic the shape of the original Swipe bags previously designed by Coperni. Already a touted accessory frequently used by celebrities, the latest glass iteration of the bag has attracted further traction and is already a hit in pop culture.

The designers at Heven believe in experimenting with different materials to create unique utilitarian and decorative items. Apart from glass, the brand also plans on sculpting out products out of resin, wood, diamonds and fabric. As glass practitioners who are not formally trained in the art, they utilise the material in a fun way. “We freestyle in a way, which could be seen as taboo by others but we think the playfulness is what is bringing glass forward in a popular way again,” says Heven. In doing so, they debunk the belief that there is a particular way to do things.
