'The Original' by Daniel Orozco Estudio expresses creative freedom

Stepping away from the ordinary, Mexico-based interior design studio, Daniel Orozco Estudio unveils a 20-piece collection of unconventionally silhouetted furniture items that epitomise creative freedom. ‘The Original’ encompasses unique pieces that reinterpret the traditional norms of furniture design and accentuates seemingly mundane elements to recreate them in a new and original visage. “By putting your heart into everything you do, the journey and every moment and process are very enjoyable; you learn a lot and there is something for everyone in this world,” shares Daniel Orozco. “Let us always continue collaborating as colleagues and creating spectacular places as a community,” he adds, emphasising the significance of collaboration with craftspeople and artists in his work.

In addition to drawing inspiration from the unshackled expression of the ordinary, the collection, composed mainly of lamps, seeks to highlight the relationship between human beings and light. Also showcasing tables and chairs, each design reflects how rare objects can be created with the right combination of materials. ‘The Original’ series speaks of the emotion of tackling new challenges, pushing boundaries, widening horizons and devising new and authentic forms of expression. Regurgitating the firm’s philosophy of keeping environmental consciousness and usage of natural materials at its core, ‘The Original’ is dominantly crafted out of wood among other materials, laying bare an earthy and organic palette.

The conceptualisation of ‘The Original’ that began in November 2021 with sketches and drawings, and was fuelled by the freedom to express day-to-day experiences. The studio’s emphasis on the importance of collaboration is deeply woven into the fabric of the new collection, bringing together an exciting team of artisans, workshop leaders and photographers that led the project to its culmination, ushering though the completion of its planning and production stages by May 2022. ‘The Original’ marks the first series designed entirely by Daniel Orozco Estudio, aligning with the studio’s sculptural oeuvre, while utilising natural textiles and other materials.
