Dotted with ancient alleyways and historic buildings, the highlights for London Design Festival 2021 , for the district includes market and street visits, trailing over the course of LDF with stops including Vaarni, Fredericia Furniture and Deadgood for exhibitions that are a combination of aesthetics and function. From the striking chair designs to sustainable surfaces, get a sweeping bird's eye tour of the top presentations on display at Clerkenwell Design District.

Deadgood

Deadgood Studio is launching Sprung Lounge Chair on the occasion of London Design Festival from the 18th-26th September and is available to view in the their professional space in London. The versatile lounge chair is crafted keeping sustainability at the forefront of the design process. 99% of the materials used are fully recyclable at the end of their life, whilst 80% are produced from recycled content themselves. Sprung features what Deadgood call an ‘honest’ aesthetic, with nothing hidden or disguised and every functional fixing and fitting on show.

Fredericia

In the 1950es Børge Mogensen experimented with his creative expression, designing a piece of furniture with an innovative approach to metal as the base of construction of sustained aesthetics. Sketches of the chair, that remained in the archives in Mogensen’s house in Lynderup ever since has been turned into reality this spring with the launch of the Lynderup Chair. Exactly as Mogensen adapted the incoming daylight in his house in Lynderup, the curvatures of the seat and back obtain light and forms an organic light and shadow play.

Milliken

Northward Bound is Milliken’s latest carbon-neutral carpet-tile collection and the first European collection in its D/LUX series .The D/LUX series is so named because it’s all about creating a high-performance luxurious carpet that uses less raw materials (thus reducing embodied carbon) with no compromise on aesthetics. This is achieved by carefully considering materials, innovating with fibre suppliers and pioneering the use of yarn systems and tufting technology. Doing more with less is in harmony with Milliken’s ethos to “do good” and the company’s unswerving ethical approach to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Inspired by the brand’s signature understated Scandinavian aesthetic, the carpet-tile collection is made up of three designs: Snow, Glacier and Ice.

Solus

Solus celebrates iconic Gio Ponti at London Design Festival. The brand will be celebrating the inspirational life and work of the Italian architect with the launch of a sensational showcase of his iconic ‘Blu’ collection of Majolica ceramic tiles. Hailed as one of the prime masters of Italian architecture , Ponti was commissioned to create 33 handcrafted ceramics, featuring mesmerising mathematical and geometric patterns, especially for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in 1960. Beautifully reflecting the stunning seascape of Sorrento, the decorative blue and white glazed tiles were used to transform 100 rooms in the hotel, along with the lobby, reception area, bar, and restaurant, where they still take pride of place to the present day. The captivating ‘Blu Ponti’ exhibition will be unveiled at Solus’ award-winning Clerkenwell Showroom on September 20.
