Founded by artist and designer Joseph Ellwood, Six Dots Design is a studio that creates its products with a passion for design, architecture and beautiful objects. In 2023, the design studio released distinctive furniture designs and homeware objects that satiated their goal of producing quirky yet functional designs. STIR recalls the highlights of the studio’s approach towards creating objects that users feel good to be surrounded by.

Pieces

The Work From Home desk by Six Dots Designs is a one-off piece designed and fabricated by Joe Ellwood in North London. “This desk is a moment of creative freedom, it's a way of disregarding the discipline of the modernist education I was given and laying bare who I am and who I want to be." the furniture designer shares.

The Cups and Jug collection comprises a jug , a tall tumbler and a short tumbler . A collection that stemmed from Ellwood’s observation of how most people due to their busy lifestyles are constantly dehydrated.

The Large waiter stand, Small waiter stand, Cafe table, Candelabras and Large meeting table are crafted with aluminium, the collection follows a masculine and industrial pallet but is equally soft, feminine and tactile due to the curves.

Owing to the material and craftsmanship, the pieces in the collection are not prone to corrosion allowing them to be used indoors and outdoors.

Six Dots Design presented The Localist Cafe at the London Design Festival 2023 . A space within Shoreditch that brought together over a dozen local creatives, makers, and manufacturers, to build the many parts that made up the functional cafe.

STIRred 2023 wraps up the year with compilations of the best in architecture, art, and design from STIR. Did your favourites make the list? Tell us in the comments!
