Coinciding with the opening date of the Dubai Design Week 2022, SICIS unveiled a new hub for the Middle East, on November 8, 2022. The 150 square metres of space is dedicated entirely to surfaces, specifically to large format, which emerge as the protagonist in this new exhibition. The presentation comes forth as a significant milestone for the Italian brand that is making strides towards expanding its distribution network in the highly competitive UAE market.

The commencement of the exhibition took place just over a year after Expo Dubai, a design event wherein SICIS took the centre stage, covering the Teatro della Memoria—home to the 3D reproduction of Michelangelo's David—with two million gold tiles.

Located within the well-known Dubai Design District (D3), the SICIS showroom invites visitors to explore and admire the wide roster of floor and wall covering products, and acknowledge their aesthetic, creative, and productive virtue. For the design festival the brand turns the spotlight towards heterogeneous solutions that meet all design requisites.

The exhibit highlights the potential of the Vetrite slabs by displaying examples of its different applications—from their use as a decorative covering for walls to their use in structural architecture such as parapets, shelters, stairs, or continuous facades.

Adding to the already established collections that garnered them high recognition in the design community, such as Vetrite and Vetrite Gem Glass, SICIS is displaying new proposals such as Vetrite Sight—designed by Studio Marco Piva. Recently developed, the intelligent applications such as backlit slabs and photovoltaic Vetrite, are projects birthed from the brand’s collaboration with the company Glass to Power—an offshoot of the University of Milan Bicocca—an expert in the production of nanoparticles, for the materialisation of decorated photovoltaic panels.

Glass mosaics also feature the extensive ensemble, performing as a component that completes the visual milieu of the showroom. Among these, deliberation and recognition is directed towards the backlit mosaic—decorations composed of special semi-transparent tiles applied through a transparent fibre mesh on LED panels—which come to life owing to the light that creates compelling effects in the dark. SICIS, since its inception, has built a reputation of being synonymous with luxury in all its artistic, decorative, and architectural endeavours. During the latest iteration of the Dubai Design Week, the Italian brand reaffirms its position, expanding it into the bustling metropolis of the Middle East.
