Contemporary lighting design brand Oblure, launch the Stair Table Lamp this month - a playful design of a moon-like orb precariously placed at the top of a tiny staircase. Designed by the Gothenburg-based architecture firm and design studio, Notchi Architects, the Stair lamp is a fun product that almost looks like a toy. The lamp highlights the geometry, shape and edges of the ordinary structure through a playful and colourful format. The Stair table lamp along with Oblure’s new Arch light are great additions to the brand's collection, adding colour and shape to a catalogue that previously was more focused on black and white tones, and the use of minimalist and sleek structures.
The Stair Table Lamp, clearly inspired by the ordinary structure of a staircase, captures a moment in time, a split second before the physics of the sphere and stairs that cause the ball to come tumbling down in an extravagant fashion. The product entices feelings of curiosity and can ushers a sense of child-like wonder in adults. When lit, the orb looks spectacular, casting an angular shadow down the sides, highlighting the powder-coated colours of the stainless steel stairs.
The light also comes with two hidden USB ports, making it a great addition to one’s office desk or study table. The lamp also complements shelves and bookcases, allowing the back of the stairs to act as an ambient bookend. The Stair lamp comes in a deep red, mellow yellow, light beige and plain black. The colour options aren’t too vivid, yet they manage to catch the eye with their rich tones and unusual design, allowing it to easily complement various interiors styles.
Notchi Architects is based in Gothenburg, Sweden and was founded by Carl-Magnus Elander and Oscar Gillkvist. The duo has taken their learnings and experiences to create products that integrate architecture with visual art, being able to understand the intricacies between space and design. The architect and lighting designer pair works with products, installations and architecture within their pursuit to create innovative designs and bridge the gap between the disciplines. Stairs are an architectural structure that holds an extreme significance to the practices of construction and has changed the way humans envisioned buildings over 4000 years ago. Notchi has created a lamp with spectacular product design taking this structure and shrinking it down to a bright, beautiful and exciting piece of lighting.
