What is better than unwinding with a relaxing soak in your bathroom after a long and exhausting day? The bathroom has long been a tried-and-true oasis where one finds the elusive opportunity to experience otherwise fleeting moments. The relevance of this space was further escalated following the COVID-19 pandemic which caused a shift in focus towards wellness. But what makes a bathroom a good bathroom? Once the sanitary ware is in place and the tiles are laid out, what else remains? Bathroom accessories are what make the difference between an insipid bathroom and one full of character. Whatever the size, selecting the right bathroom accessory weaves the elements into a cohesive aesthetic, allowing one to inject a dash of their personality.

From minimalist mirrors to monolithic wash basins, STIR enlists an array of innovative bathroom accessories and product designs that are all you need to spruce up the space and start your day immersed in luxury and serenity.

1. Edo by Piero Lissoni

Transport the tranquillity of Japan to your abode with Edo. Italian architect, art director, and designer Piero Lissoni’s collaboration with Italian brand Salvatori culminated in a range of bathroom accessories called Edo that reflect their shared fascination with the Orient. The word Edo is derived from the ancient name of Tokyo, when the city was a tiny fishing village, long before it evolved into the nerve centre of Japan as we know it today. The design of the collection, which includes toilet paper holders and freestanding and wall-mounted towel racks, pays homage to the intrinsic serenity of the East.

2. Isy22 - Progressive Mixer by Zucchetti Group

Who says bathroom fixtures can only be clad in neutrals? This progressive mixer by designers Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for Italian brand Zucchetti features some bold two-tone designs in playful and bright colours. A renowned pioneer for their innovative design and unparalleled technical features, Isy marks a significant turn of the tide owing to the system’s state-of-the-art modular design capable of catering to market preferences while being simpler to manufacture for the company.

3. Dowel Mirror by Kristina Dam

If minimalism is your cup of tea, this mirror will certainly speak to you. The Dowel mirror by Denmark-based designer Kristina Dam embodies minimalism at its best—its form is a conspicuous advocate of beauty in simplicity and unwavering strength in honest design. Sleekly framed in steel and centred with a walnut plug, this bathroom accessory, once mounted on the wall, will make the ensuite your favourite place of reflection.

4. Oblomow Mirror by Clan Milano

Introduce the language of dynamism into the placid sanctum of your home with this mirror. Born in Italy, Clan Milano is known for spearheading new trends in contemporary design and living through stylistic innovations and daring aesthetics. The Oblomow mirror is a striking offshoot of the homonymous seating line already present in the brand’s catalogue. A composition abiding by a similar expression, it showcases 'biscuit' modules where the repetition of shapes yields a language and gives dynamism without borders.

5. Swan by Mario Trimarchi Design

This faucet will fill your bathroom with wonder—epitomising gratitude for receiving the gift of every day. Conceived by Italian designer and architect Mario Trimarchi, this singular commodity titled Swan steps away from being a simple functional tube. With exceptional technical performance and a shape that changes with the viewing angle, the product design is elegant like a swan and unpredictable, akin to an animal that moves in all directions. LED lights glow when the temperature reaches 32°C, emitting a red light that ignites the interior of a lever donned with an embossed finish. The Press pad manages a maximum flow rate while an easy-to-use extractable hand spray turns off automatically when returned to its position.

6. META Countertop by Karim Rashid

This countertop infuses the bathroom context with coveted sensual minimalism. With US-based designer Karim Rashid’s unique creative voice as the protagonist, the META collection comprises bathroom sinks, bathtubs, and wall panels—an ensemble promising a unique bathroom experience. The META countertop washbasin brings forth a monolithic aspect, characterised by a distinctive play of round surfaces. The design of the border ensures a convenient positioning of the controls directly on the sink. The monolithic aesthetic chosen by the product designer morphs into a dialogue between lights and volumes—a bathroom accessory that will surely aggrandize your space.

7. Wide&Style Mini Vol. 2 by ABK

Bored of typical and redundant bathroom wallpapers? Italian brand ABK comes to the rescue with the Wide&Style MINI Volume 2. With colour and new decorative ideas taking centre stage, the collection features original ceramic wallpapers that can adorn even the smallest rooms. The porcelain wall tile collection is available in eight exclusive patterns that can be combined with the main ABK surfaces. Wide&Style MINI Vol. 2 steps away from figurative and naturalistic inspirations and dives into an abstract world defined by peculiar geometries, line patterns, and designs with a handmade feel. These compelling proposals provide indispensable support to interior designers to create the ‘dream home.’

8. Geode Collection by Cristina Celestino

When it comes to material choices, marble never goes out of style. Cristina Celestino designed a series of bathroom accessories—a sink, a shower tray, and a planter—for leading marble company Margraph. The volumes of the Geode are amalgams of a combination of layers of different marbles, Carnian peach blossom, Jade green, and pink Onyx—worked on as a single block of material, which births the varying layers it is composed of. The product designer reuses parts of different marble slabs, reinstating value in scraps, that come together and are finished with extreme precision and care.

9. Axor Edge by Jean-Marie Massaud

This sculptural entity of rectangular prisms sits on the washbasin like a crown. AXOR Edge mixer by French designer Jean-Marie Massaud is a composition milled and polished using state-of-the-art diamond-cutting technology. The collection includes a wall-mounted mixer, a three-hole mixer and a single-lever mixer, cantilevered and asymmetrical, in four heights. With an exclusive AXOR FinishPlus surface, such as the Polished Black Chrome shown here, Axor Edge becomes a personal reflection of its owner.

10. Zencha by Sebastian Herkner for Duravit

Cutting-edge craftsmanship and a vocabulary evocative of Japanese design define this bathware collection. German bathware trailblazer Duravit has collaborated with Sebastian Herkner for a new collection titled Zencha. Comprising rounded freestanding bathtubs, over-the-counter basins, and bathroom accessories reminiscent of the delicate hand-made ceramics, Herkner's designs are built on the ritualistic facet of a user’s relationship with their bathroom—an extremely personal place where one often finds solitude. Drawing inspiration from smooth lines of Japanese tea cups, the designer explores their size, proportion, and materiality to conceptualise the ensemble of product designs.
