The Yeti collection, originally designed by Vladimir Naumov, a digital artist, has now been recreated as a physical product by Missana Lab, the research wing of Spanish furniture company Missana. The digital collection was created by Naumov, who is a Russian artist, to give form to a design that could prick the imagination of its viewers. Inspired by the different shapes of ascending clouds, the Yeti sofa appears like a soft and welcoming lounging space.

The fluffy and soft sofa designs created by Naumov are set in equally fantastical environments, thus adding to the surrealist aura of the piece. Despite the unusual colours and the bizarre form of the Yeti sofa, its tactile and visual features rest easy on the eyes. Naumov wanted the design of the Yeti collection to assist viewers into experiencing transcendental emotions and making their imaginations fly. He began the process of designing by drawing lines inspired by the shapes of clouds. This, eventually, led to the creation of a design defined by softness and comfort. But, instead of embodying the generic stylistic patterns that are richly used in contemporary culture, Naumov’s surreal aesthetic sets the scene for a sensorial imaginary experience.

Missana Lab, part of the larger furniture brand, Missana, based in Spain, is a space dedicated to research and creation of innovative products. With an attempt to employ new technologies and methods to create objects, Missana Lab focuses on experimentation and collaboration. Currently, the focus of the organisation lies on turning designs from the digital world into physical objects. Their association with Naumov on the Yeti collection is part of the same vision. Previously, the research branch collaborated with Alexis Christodoulou to create Milos, which was inspired by Cycladic architecture and bore a futuristic aesthetic.
