Outer Space is a visual art and photography exhibition at Kernweine gallery, presenting works by four different artists in Stuttgart, Germany. The exhibition explores the relationship between photography and the physical space of the Kernweine gallery by presenting works that create their own environment and ‘space’. The intriguing photographs transport viewers to another realm with their equivocal components. The gallery space is also decorated with objects by Anima Ona, the Stuttgart based multidisciplinary design studio. Their eccentric designs adorn the exhibition space, adding an element of intrigue and dynamism, and simultaneously complementing the narrative of the photographs displayed at the gallery. Some of the photographers and visual artists whose works are displayed at the German gallery are Fabrizio Albertini, Giovanni Emilio Galanello, Robert Pufleb & Nadine Schlieper and Constantin Schlachter. Outer Space went on display on the 6th of November last year and will continue to be showcased at Galerie Kernweine GmbH in Stuttgart till the 1st of April.

The images presented at the exhibition deviate from the traditional notions of photography, exploring the wide spectra of art through alternate formats. Fabrizio Albertini’s work takes the viewer on a visual and emotional journey and expands on his memories from his homeland in Italy. The images provoke ambivalence and Albertini’s work transcends the viewer to a cosmic space of foggy memories and visuals. Much like Albertini’s work, Giovanni Emilio Galanello’s work expands on the history of the Italian region of Norcia. Through a storytelling project titled ‘Gli Stati Della Anime’ which translates to ‘The States of Souls’, his photographs tell the story of a region that has witnessed frequent migrations and has been shaped by several natural disasters.

German duo, Robert Pufleb & Nadine Schlieper bounce around the concepts of close and far with their series of works entitled ‘Alternative Moons’. It comprises a series of pictures that are defined by deep haunting tones and detailed textures that appear like that of a distant celestial body. On closer inspection, it is revealed that the images are a product of manipulative camerawork and unusual set design, thus inciting feelings of suspicion, doubts and mild betrayal amongst the viewers.

French photographer Constantin Schlachter’s work is guided by the opposing forces at play, with detailed images from micro perspectives distorted into vast endlessness of space. Schlachter uses an array of different cameras, lenses, microscopes to experiment with his work through both the analogue and digital processes, playing with grainy mineral finishes. Outer Space bridges the unique themes of photography and physical space through a series of works that narrate the personal journeys of the objects through intimate and personal ways, which also awaken the latent emotions of the viewer.

The ‘Outer Space’ will remain on display till 1st April, 2022 at the Kernweine Gallery in Stuttgart, Germany.
