Renowned blade manufacturer in the Japanese market, KAI has recently released a disposable paper razor. Inspired by the plastic-free SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) concepts, KAI has created a sustainable design that comprises a paper handle and holder and accommodates a metal blade. The eco-friendly razor design has reduced the usage of plastic by 98% as compared to conventional razors. Inspired by paper spoons and milk cartons, the structure of the razor has been designed to stay sturdy and easy to hold. The usage of paper in place of plastic also makes it more convenient for carrying and storing as it weighs less and has thinner, more compact packaging.
KAI was founded by Saijiro Endo, in the year 1908 in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, which is famous for its cutlery. Ever since then, it has evolved into leading cutlery manufacturer with more than 10,000 products under its tutelage. The brand is now based in Tokyo and handles the product planning, development, production, sales, and distribution of all of its products, which includes men’s grooming products, clippers, kitchen knives, and other cooking, confectionary and medical products.
KAI consistently promotes initiatives and creates designs that eliminate or reduce the usage of plastic in an attempt to move towards a more eco-friendly world. The paper razor is another one of KAI’s products that is plastic-free and environment-friendly.
Available in multiple colours and graphic options, KAI Paper Razors can be used by both men and women. The material used for the product is water-resistant, which means that it won’t get spoiled in case it gets wet accidentally. Measuring 131.5 x 59.7 x 3.1 mm before assembly and 96 x 41.6 x 17 mm after assembly, the paper product weighs only 4 grams. The Paper Razors are available in a total of five colours- Ocean blue, botanical red, jade green, sunny yellow, and sand beige.
