London based Emily Forgot collaborated with Floor Story for the second time to curate Construct– a vibrant rug collection showcasing Emily's structural flair in design. Following the previously successful Bauhaus inspired exhibition at Amsterdam’s De Bijenkorf store, the London based brand renewed their partnership with Forgot for their latest collaboration. Construct was inspired by Emily Forgot's signature design style that fuses geometric patterns with structural elements. “As part of my design and art practice, I create wooden relief assemblages that play with form and colour and often have a strong graphic and architectural feel. I similarly approached the rug designs - wanting to experiment with relief and depth, through the tuft heights and explore the mood and personality of the pieces through colour,” says designer and artist Emily Forgot. Designed as part of the Construct collection, Amity, Amedee, and Aldo are dynamic pieces that are suited for either minimalist or maximalist settings.

“Emily approached us to make a one-off rug for an exhibition she was taking part in, in Rotterdam. She was amazing to work with, so I then floated the idea of a collection to her and three years later, we have this beautiful and truly unique collection to launch,” shares Simon Goff, Founder of the Floor Story.

Exploring the designing ideologies of the multidisciplinary artist, one notices the blurring boundaries of multiple dimensions while consolidating her artistic, illustrative and graphic learnings. Her interior design pieces are bold and with a coruscating kaleidoscope of colours. “I am very interested in design movements from the past, from the clean lines and simplicity of modernism to the loud and more playful pieces of postmodernism. I hope the outcome is a series of rugs that have visual exchanges with the past, showing my appreciation for these movements but very much rooted in the present,” expresses Emily on her design inspiration for this collaboration.

Forgot’s artistic language and insatiable curiosity have been a topic of interest for many of her renowned clients including the V&A, Somerset House, Herman Miller etc. She gained global recognition during the London Design Festival 2016 through her solo exhibition, ‘Neverland’ with her signature architectural assemblages. The Construct rugs reveal a blend of modernist and postmodernist styles. It has been designed with multiple layers and an overall geometric design and block-style influence, presenting itself as a unique troupe of modern rugs. The three designs are available in four different colourways and two subsequent qualities of wool. Construct Amity is hand-knotted in Nepal in five Tibetan wool colours and four pile heights; the varied density of fibres in a rug. Meanwhile, Construct Amedee and Construct Aldo are tufted in India in five colours of New Zealand wool with four different pile heights. Emily curates a unique and creative abstraction for the Floor Story through interchangeable colours, pile heights and geometric forms, ensuing in an unconventional assortment of rugs.
