BẰNG unveils layers of lighting design with the ‘LỚP’ collection

In the vibrant landscape of Vietnamese design, where tradition meets innovation, furniture and lighting design brand BẰNG emerged as a beacon of creativity and craftsmanship in 2021 with French designer Thomas Vincent as the Creative Director. BẰNG is a Vietnamese preposition for ‘made by (a process) or made from/of (a material)’. Built on the foundation of innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship, BẰNG draws inspiration from its environment and more generally from everyday life in Vietnam .

The most recent collection by BẰNG features an exquisite line of lamps under the evocative title, LỚP, meaning 'layers' in Vietnamese. The idea of 'something floating into something' served as the inspiration for this set of sculptural lamp designs . As the concept developed, it became an alluring representation of a 'sphere delicately suspended within layers' a symphony of light and shape harmonising. The sphere creates captivating reflections on the acrylic layers when illuminated which are evocative of a moving trail or a momentarily recorded motion. The sphere appears stationary, yet its many reflections provide the illusion of elegant movement, creating a delicate dance of light between the layers.

Vincent's unique creative method is revealed throughout the creation process. He explores the world of limitations and embraces them as forces that spur creativity. The designer articulated the difficulty as 'something floating into something', striking a balance between the creative limitations and the constraints of certifications, production, and packaging. This clever strategy created many possibilities, opening doors for a design that eventually gave form to a ball suspended between layers.

In order to guarantee visual coherence and comprehension, the product designer meticulously chose the materials. A visually compelling story was created by contrasting matte opal glass for opacity and clear acrylic for transparency. The story is simple yet profound with a lighting effect that adds an unanticipated level of fascination to LỚP.
