Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro is a palazzo on the Grand Canal in Venice that doubles as a gallery space and caters to the artistic, cultural and educational enhancement of locals and visitors alike. While the programme has already been kickstarted with ‘Opera in Studio’, which is on display at the palazzo since December 2021 and includes the solo exhibit of Lorenzo Tiepolo’s ‘A baby girl’, the next event on the roster will be held this year. Titled ‘Bosco Sodi at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani’, the exhibition will host Bosco Sodi at Palazzo Vendramin Griman. Curated by Daniela Ferretti and Dakin Hart and co-produced by Antwerp-based Axel Vervoordt Gallery and New York based Kasmin Gallery, the exhibition will be populated with several of Bosco Sodi’s works, a few of which will be created at the palazzo itself by the artist during the residency that is scheduled to begin on 21st February 2022 and last until 10th March 2022.

The residency will witness Sodi, in his element, producing paintings using his distinctive technique of depositing layers of a mixture of sawdust, cellulose pulp, glue and pigment on canvas, and then leaving them out for nature to act on them for a few weeks. “The idea is to get into a certain state of mind, in which you can confront everything that goes into making a painting. In the end the process is what matters most,” says Mexico-based artist Bosco Sodi of his creative process.

“The whole painting is more like a texture than an idea being conveyed. In my work I can decide the 'container' by determining the shape and size of the canvas, but the magical and organic form that emerges is completely outside of my control. It is in this way that the shape of the painting is actually decided," says Sodi. Apart from the peculiar method employed by the artist to make his pieces, he also uses unique pigments to imbue his creations with unfettered originality.

Some of the other exhibits that will occupy the spaces of the palazzo in the next two years include ‘Opera in Studio’, ‘Niccolo Manucci’, ‘Ritorno A Casa’ and ‘Artist in Residence’, which will feature the works created by another artist at the palazzo.

About Bosco Sodi

Bosco Sodi is a Mexico based artist who uses his vividly coloured paintings as a route to both realise and communicate back the emotional power he feels emanates from everything natural. Guided by an intense approach where Sodi continues to work on his paintings non-stop, his artistic works require equal amounts of physical and intellectual labour.

About Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro:

Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro is headquartered at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, a palace located on the Grand Canal in Venice. The archaic palazzo derives its eminence from the fact that it was once a residence of some of the most illustrious families of the country. Keeping in tandem with the same, Fondazione dell'Albero d'Oro has now re-created the space into a haven where artistic and intellectual ideas can be exchanged, through conversations, exhibitions and public events.

About Axel Vervoordt gallery:

Belgium based gallery and interior design firm, Axel Vervoodt, is a family led business that was envisioned and launched by Axel when he discovered a row of 15th and 16th century buildings in the middle of Antwerp. The gallery operates on the timeless philosophy of living for and with art, a mantra that guides them to respect architecture, constantly search for beauty and quality and an urge to discover the latent harmony between the past, present and future.

The exhibition 'Bosco Sodi at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani', featuring the works of Bosco Sodi, will remain on display from April to November 2022 at the Palazzo Vendramin Grimani in Venice, Italy.
