The design of doors, has evolved over the years with advancements in culture and technology as well as changing aesthetics and functional needs. From traditional wooden doors to steel and iron doors, brands are now crafting technologically advanced doors exploring the materiality of different mediums. Design brand ADL, established by Massimo Luca, specialises in opening and closing systems and has revolutionised door systems. Luca’s meticulous study of the materials specifically the match between aluminium and glass brought him to develop an eclectic way of thinking which goes beyond mere aesthetic virtuosity, leading his product designs into the land of hi-tech functional innovations. Luca has developed ADL doors that creatively transform into doorways that create transitions rather than divide the space, producing ‘flowing spaces.'

In their latest ‘Grande Officina’ and ‘Forest’ collection for Milan Design Week 2023, ADL offers segregation systems that create separations without breaking the flow of movement in the space. Smart usage of custom aluminium crossbars has been incorporated to create these sliding systems on a ‘telescopic track’ that guarantees smooth fluidity while sliding the doors. ADL also focuses keen attention on sustainability, with the primary materials being 100% recyclable glass and aluminium that guarantee maximum durability and reliability.

Forest

‘Forest’ is a modern concept of screen partitioning fixed between walls, it is designed to create intimate areas within the same space without alienating them completely. It incorporates a no-glass panel with vertical crosspieces joined by refined spacers with a cylindrical section that visually filters areas without limiting the passage of light and sound. The system includes a ceiling plate and a fin profile installed on the floor; between these two parts, an aluminium panel with a telescopic adjustment of 12 mm is installed.

Grande Officina

The ‘Grande Officina’ collection is crafted from an arrangement of special aluminium crosspieces that create different grills to incorporate different kinds of glass, creating a surface with a sophisticated appearance. Structural and pass-through crosspieces allow the fitting of different pieces of glass between the various parts of the door panel. The panel handling system does not require any ceiling or floor arrangement or a jamb, but only two simple elements. The hinge, integrated into the profile of the frame, allows opening in both directions with an automatic stop when closing, with the door stopping at 90 degrees.

ADL’s sliding doors unite rooms designed as single spaces, achieving practicality through the optimisation of the space. This arrangement can be equipped not just in residential settings, offices and contracted projects, but also in small spaces.
