Gallery FUMI unveils In the Warmth of Winter, a group exhibition on view from January 30 – March 22, 2025, encapsulating the essence of comfort, texture, warmth and material exploration. The show in London, UK, brings together distinct and limited-edition works by the art gallery's esteemed roster of designers and artists, inviting visitors into a richly immersive experience that revels in the interplay of craftsmanship and sensory delight. Set against a backdrop of deep amber and forest-green walls, the design exhibition unfolds as a composition of materials and hues—cool blues, warm neutrals and bold flashes of red—enhanced by an array of copper, bronze, glass, sculpted wood, ceramic and handwoven textiles.
Among the standout works of contemporary design, Finland-based textile artist Kustaa Saksi presents two new tapestry pieces—Beyond and Herbarium of Dreams III, that investigate sensory perception through hypnotic compositions and intricate materiality. Handcrafted with Japanese Mino Washi paper and viscose derived from wood pulp, these works weave narratives of ethereal sanctuaries and surreal dreamscapes, reflecting Saksi's fascination with 'hypnopompic hallucinations'—visions that emerge in the space between sleep and wakefulness.
London-based duo Study O Portable contributes sculptural side tables from their Fuzz series, defined by delicately layered pigmented jesmonite, where colours dissolve into organic formations reminiscent of geological sedimentation. Meanwhile, Sam Orlando Miller's Rosa della Foresta (Rose of the Forest) mesmerises with its amber and olivine-hued mirrored chandelier, inspired by the geometric perfection of the rhombic triacontahedron.
Further highlights include Copper Roots IX by JAMESPLUMB—a skeletal floor-standing lighting sculpture of intertwining copper and counterbalanced lamp designs—alongside plush hand-dyed wool armchairs and rugs by Max Lamb. Meanwhile, Francesco Perini's furniture design through Nucleo Coffee Table balances polished steel inlays with aged oak, while Casey McCafferty's Totems merge rustic ash with sculpted bronze segments and Emma Witter, a London-based artist showcases her Ocean Bowl made of giant oyster shells, electroformed copper, metallic paint and crystal resin.
Gallery FUMI's curation extends to explorations of the surreal, exemplified by Eelko Moorer's Flora Curiosa, a bronze vessel with protrusions that appear both floral and corporeal, and Jeremy Anderson's Ephyra Cinque, a chandelier of cascading, wheel-thrown stoneware orbs evoking the fluidity of a drifting jellyfish bloom along with his lamp design, The Periwinkles.
Glithero, a creative partnership of Sarah van Gameren and Tim Simpson, has in attendance its Iris Cabinet, Handful Vase alongside ceramic and glass artist Leora Honeyman's Comfy Stool and the La Belle et la Bête Floor Light by Jochen Holz, a glass artist, at the design event. Ceramicist Johannes Nagel presents his porcelain works, Cuts #78/Gold, Silhouette/Extended #2 and Silhouette #69/Meander, while Japan-born Shinta Nakajima, a silversmith, showcases Acanthus VIII, Acanthus XI sconce and the Acanthus XIII sconce.
