Next Tuesday, March 29th, at 7pm, we inaugurate the series 'Places of Bacchus. Dialogues about Architecture and Wine' at Roca Madrid Gallery with Fredy Massad as moderator and Sol Madridejos and Juan Carlos Sancho, architects and founders of the architecture studio Sancho Madridejos and Rafael Ansón as speakers. A seminar to talk about wine as a constant presence in the economic, social and cultural history of humanity. This series of dialogues between an architect and a professional from another field of creation and knowledge proposes to address (with a desire for analysis and reflection) this timeless dimension of wine and how it is actively manifested in the contemporary world.
Roca proposes to go beyond the basic understanding of wine (its production and consumption) as a refined/sophisticated product and pleasure to focus on its relevance and capacity to propose answers and references for a world that is currently in the search for new bases of all natures (economic, ideological, cultural, ecological...).
This series of dialogues, supported by the Architects' College of Madrid, the Architecture Foundation, the Open Center for Architecture and Mastinell, will be curated and moderated by architect Fredy Massad. During the meetings they will try to expose which are the keys that the history and present of wine provide us. In other words: how the ancestral nature of wine is or can become contemporary.
In this first session, we will analyze the transformations that winery architecture has gone through during the most recent decades: from wineries designed by star-architects (combining show and turning the relationship with wine into 'experience') to the growing importance of smaller-scale wineries and impact on the territory, which reflect a new sensitivity both to the landscape and nature and to the concepts that give value to wine.
Invited speakers:

  • Sol Madridejos, Architect, founding partner of Sancho-Madridejos Architecture Office - SMAO.
  • Juan Carlos Sancho Osinaga, Architect and founding partner of Sancho-Madridejos Architecture Office - SMAO
  • Rafael Ansón, President of the Academia Iberoamericana de Gastronomía (Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy)
  • Fredy Massad, architect, curator and moderator of the session
