For this exhibition, CGN and rug brand Odabashian developed a project in which design related professionals from different locations and disciplines took part. Weaving design stories: Contemporary perspectives from the Silk Road parts form a historic and geographical revision to highlight the influences, connexions and cultural fluxes existent between America and Spain, through six hand-weaved rugs.
Participants took their place of origin as a starting point to explore the Silk Road’s historic threads, tracking the diverse sociocultural impacts it provoked in each location. Odabashian produced the six rugs, that worked as canvases in which participants imprinted their concepts. In that way, the series of rugs is conceived as the result of a fabric of history and ideas. Designs show ancient techniques like the Tibetan knot, using New Zealand wool and silk. The rugs were fabricated by hand in the Ganges plains, close to Varanasi city, in India. The exhibition was held at Museo Regional de Querétaro.
