On the occasion of Nilufar’s Milan Design Week, Sophie Dries presents the Levitation Alchemia Mirror, part of the Levitating Alchemia collection, created exclusively for Nilufar Gallery.
Sophie Dries together with Nina Yashar decided to extend the collection and display new pieces. Levitation Alchemia has been presented for the first time during FIAC art fair in October 2021at Genius Loci, the show curated by Marion Vignal in Gio Ponti’s l’Ange Volant private villa near Paris. Alchemic experimentation and the transformation of material has frequently been the subject of Dries' exploration. For this particular project, Dries adds two new mirrors to the collection, combining them with her fascination with opacity, colours, and minerals, and made by traditional glass masters in Murano. The new additions are a continuation of that Dries revealed during Milan Design Week 2021: a blown glass applique light with mica (natural mineral) and two vases that connect the transparency of the glass to the radiance of mica.
“Since five years ago, Nina has materialised my research on glass and minerals (my obsession) through the craftsmanship of the best glass masters in Murano. With Nilufar Gallery, I could present an aesthetic journey going from lamps, to vases and now mirrors, which will be continued in the future” states Dries.
Levitation Alchemia’s collection is hand made upon request, available in several versions: pendant light, sconce, unique shape of vases or mirror, each with mineral inlaid glass spheres, in different shapes and sizes according to custom orders.
