The Remasters collection by the eminent furniture brand Acerbis is an attempt by MDF Italia, the new proprietor of the century-old brand, to reinterpret a selection of prominent archival works that have stood out in the history of Italian design. This new collection attempts to honour those designs, while also ascribing to contemporary sensibilities and fulfilling the utilitarian needs of indoor spaces. Curated by creative directors Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces, the collection debuted at the Supersalone earlier this year, perfectly continuing the tradition of showcasing new designs at every edition of the design festival.

“Francesco and David each bring different specialties to the table, creating a more comprehensive perspective for Acerbis,” says Marco Cassina, marketing manager of MDF Italia. “These pieces recount an important history with an intrinsically precious value for those who understand the narrative of design. We’re updating them for how we live in our homes today, with new proportions, new materials, and new colours,” Francesco Meda and David Lopez Quincoces, designers of the revamped collection, added.

Founded in the year 1870 by Benvenuto Acerbis, a skilled woodworker, Acerbis has endured as a prominent Italian furniture brand for over 100 years, collaborating regularly with renowned Italian designers like Massimo and Lella Vignelli, Vico Magistretti, Nanda Vigo, Gianfranco Frattini, Giotto Stoppino, Mario Bellini, and Andrea Branzi. The brand functions with the intent of creating innovative designs and solutions that satisfy trends that are in vogue, all the while staying true to their characteristic style.

Acerbis was acquired by Milan-based design company MDF Italia in 2019, thus opening new avenues both in terms of the rich designs that they can now offer as well as the collective markets that the partnership opens up. A combination of MDF Italia’s strong sales network, high capacity of production and marketing skills with Acerbis’ consolidated international sales network and technological expertise have rendered the partnership even more relevant and successful in the Italian market.

“They are designers of the new generation, but with considerable experiences that have already affirmed their talent, and with a remarkably clear vision for the brand that embraces its exceptional story and icons, freshly evolving the international style and architectural design that has always distinguished Acerbis,” shares Marco Cassina. The Remasters Collection comprises 3 new products from the archives, taking the total tally of products displayed at the revamped showroom at Acerbis’ headquarters in Mariano Comense to 11. These include the Florian folding side table, Serenissimo table and Creso table.

Florian, a foldable side table, appears like a shelf at first glance. Originally created in the year 1989 by Vico Magistretti, it is a lightweight, simple piece of furniture, with the surfaces fixed at multiple levels. When folded, it can easily be transported, stored or hung on the wall as an interesting display piece. The revamped version of the table comes in subtle colour tones and textures, utilising ash wood in its frame.

The Serenissimo and Creso tables were also designed in the 1980s by Lella and Massimo Vignelli. The Serenissimo table is a classic table with four columns that supports a linear steel girder with a glass top. Creso tables appear like singular monoliths supporting a flat surface on top. Built out of travertine and sometimes glass, the table comes in a range of colours.
