The Tagada Collection by Stamuli AB replicates the typical design sensibilities of the Sweden-based design studio, while also mirroring distinct features from the Memphis style of the 1980s. Characterised by clean lines, sharp edges and solid colours, the chair, table, mirror and carpet that make up the collection do not shy away from using bold colour combinations.
Founded by Emanuele Stamuli, the design studio, unilaterally dedicated to working on interiors and furniture design, is driven by its love for rationalism and desire to produce sustainable products. Their designs ascribe to contemporary sensibilities with minimum flamboyance and a good amount of focus on their utility.
The initial steps that led to the creation of the Tagada collection involved picking up basic elements and placing them to form a composition that can redefine the space in which they are placed. The peculiarly coloured furniture pieces imbue their surroundings with playfulness and lightness. As a direct manifestation of the products’ characteristics, its name is also borrowed from the name of a very common Italian amusement ride in Luna Park, Stockholm, which spins around, making the surrounding village appear like a smudge of colours. These pieces bear the influence of studios like Memphis and Studio Alchimia as well as artists such as Franco Summa.
The structure of the furniture pieces in the collection are made out of plywood and MDF, with a laminate finish which is glued to the products. This external finish saturates the pieces with a shiny appearance, which, together with the bold colours give the users an opportunity to escape from the ordinary.
First showcased at EDIT Napoli, the Tagada collection and the Unstressed Chair by the studio are unique pieces of furniture that appear like art pieces masquerading as furniture products. The Unstressed Chair is made out of a single aluminium piece, where Alessandro Bruzzone, architect at Stamuli, explored metal plasticity under stress.
