Paola Lenti uses 'Teatime' at Fuorisalone 2022 to beat the heat and tension

Since contemporary design is primarily characterised by unostentatious features, spartan geometries and toned down hues, designers of the 21st century often refrain from colouring their creations in bold and vibrant tones in an attempt to produce versatile items that can occupy all kinds of contemporary urban settings. What emerges thus is an array of products and objects that are inclined towards recreating the earthy tones of nature, the dark aesthetic of nightly hours or the mundane tonalities that can sit obscurely in both indoor and outdoor settings. Paola Lenti’s latest furniture collection 'Teatime', however, subverts this praxis through its minty green and blue fabrics that adorn the simply shaped sofas. Designed to be showcased at Fuorisalone 2022, the collection comprises three items: an armchair, a two seater sofa and a three seater sofa.

Paola Lenti founded her eponymous brand in the year 1994 in Italy. Started with the intention of researching and experimenting with materials, techniques of production and artistic expression, the brand now holds a standing of international repute in the creative industry. Over a span of three decades, the brand has designed and produced eco-friendly products and objects in a variety of colours and hues for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

All three chairs and sofas are dressed in fabrics created by interweaving Twiggy, the exclusive Paola Lenti yarn that was launched in 2020. Much like its parent material, the fabric covering the Teatime seats and backrests are sustainable, eco-friendly, durable and smooth. Although suffused in vibrant colours, they are versatile enough to occupy the informal spaces of gardens, poolsides and residential living rooms as well as semi-formal settings in hospitality and commercial structures.

In addition to re-iterating the features of Twiggy, this latest fabric covering the surface of Teatime is also waterproof and resistant to dirt, abrasion and sun rays on account of a thin transparent sheath that shields the woven yarn. By making it invulnerable to common climatic conditions, Paola Lenti, part of the larger Meda group, has successfully created a design that is harmonious with nature, lasts long and requires little to no maintenance, thus ensuring ease of usage and resulting in reduced negative impact on the environment.

A potent example of eco-sustainability, each piece of the Teatime collection is composed of small elements that can be disassembled and disposed of at the end of the product’s life, thus making the process of complete recycling especially smooth. The inner composition of the furniture pieces, namely the cushion padding, is also made out of the eco-friendly material, Aerelle, ensuring that the entire design falls in line with the brand’s motto of creating sustainable products. Aerelle is a blue polyester fibre that is obtained by recycling abandoned single-use plastic. Filling the cushions with a material that has been reclaimed from waste designates Teatime under the categorisation of circular design products.

Held sturdy by stainless steel structures that are varnished with the minty colour palette of Teatime sofas, this latest furniture design collection is an example of Paola Lenti’s ability to create products in unique co-ordinated colour shades every year. This consistency is one of the several defining characteristics of the internationally renowned furniture brand.
