Spanning across realms of art, design and textile, Dutch graphic artist Nynke Tynagel gives their fusion quite an unconventional visage: bold depictions of the internal workings of the human body. In collaboration with textile pioneers BYBORRE, the Netherlands-based artist breathed life into the audacious and avant-garde Anatomic for the new Dutch design-art label inCC:. Part deck chair and part wall tapestry, Anatomic, following its successful launch at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery during the Milan Design Week 2022 in their captivating exhibition RoCOLLECTIBLE 2022 | Designers & Crafters, is set to take the stage at Rossana Orlandi Sardegna and Glue Amsterdam this summer.

Nynke's unabashedly expressive and iconographic imagery, both heraldic and pop cartoonish, dons a strong narrative quality. A similar language is conspicuous in the harmonious but intense composition of Anatomic. The intricate weave of human connections does not limit itself to the skin, but traverses the entirety of the physical being. Fuelled by the desire to explore these bonds beyond skin deep, the Dutch artist actualised a meticulous design that references childhood board games and educational diagrams that induce a vague sense of familiarity in the viewers. Nynke’s creation with the bold illustration of the human anatomy as the protagonist was made a reality by Amsterdam-based leading innovators in the sphere of textiles, BYBORRE. The unique 3D knit pattern produced from a blend of cotton and recycled polyester ushers the onlookers on a journey of tactile exploration, which surprises them with details unravelling with every new glance.

Nynke developed a fondness for textile design owing to her parents’ professional backgrounds, a reflection of which can often be glimpsed in her oeuvre. Anatomic, a reimagination of the nostalgic deck chair, accents both indoors and outdoors and can be enjoyed as textile art when mounted on a wall with the included hook. The wooden construction assumes the form of a frame for the artwork and as a base of the chair. Its dual-functionality, a conscious choice of inCC:, drives its mission of making more with less forward. A limited edition of 600, the Anatomic chair is hand-crafted to order in the Netherlands with recycled PES and certified Dutch oak and comes with a wall hanging kit that gives users the leeway of how they want to introduce uniqueness in their homes.

Nynke Tynagel’s globally acclaimed ornamented artwork that often sheathes dark and satirical content is a courageous resistance against the attitudes and the status quo of the modern world. inCC:, establishing itself in a space where art and function amalgamate, invited Nynke as their first guest to kickstart a series of creative alliances. Anatomic emerged as an epitome of craftsmanship that is beautiful and functional in tandem while compelling viewers to think. In a contemporary world obsessed with external appearances, Anatomic gives people a rare opportunity to look inward.
