NYCxDESIGN festival returns with its 10th anniversary edition this May 10 to 20, 2022. Each year, the design festival invites and attracts thousands of visitors to the international design capital to laud creatives and visionaries of the city’s design community, share and partake in new ideas and find inspiration through the building experience. Two internationally renowned trade shows WantedDesign and the International Contemporary Furnishings Fair (ICFF) will also feature in the festival that will spotlight national and international talent choosing to associate with the momentous event. “For ten years, the NYCxDESIGN Festival has highlighted New York City as the destination for thousands of visitors to explore the best design rooted in innovation, creativity, culture, and inclusivity,” shares Elissa Black, Executive Director of NYCxDESIGN. “The programming for this 10th anniversary special edition defines the future of design locally and internationally and reflects NYCxDESIGN’s work year-round to support the diverse design creators and industries of New York.”
The special anniversary edition of the festival will offer immersive design experiences like Design Pavilion, providing a platform for impactful and talented voices using design as a tool for the greater good. Engaging experiential installations like CLB Architects’ FILTER and Karim Rashid's compelling concepts will enhance public spaces while showcasing design and innovation. The winning design installation will also be unveiled for the design competition, IMPACTxDESIGN, this spring. Trade shows ICFF and WantedDesign Manhattan, anchor events of the festival, will present not only high-end North American studios but also emerging international designers. The event will allow viewers to explore a landscape of innovation and freshness of design through art installations, exhibitions, workshops and stirring conversations.
The festival plays an imperative role in bringing forth new talent, an exciting opportunity for both industry veterans and design lovers. Offering college talent and growing designers the due limelight and recognition is indispensable for the future of design. Various inspiring and informative programs and art exhibitions around renewal, floral expression, and nature will light up the interiors of world’s leading museums based in New York City.
The visitors will also be able to indulge in a great insider experience, a behind-the-scenes look at the city’s design scene across its most artistic neighborhoods via NYCxDESIGN’s Open Studio Crawls. Tours, open studios and showroom crawls aim to give users a sneak peek at the past, present and future of design development. As part of the Industry City Design Festival, insightful film screenings will take place around the city for the public to enjoy.
NYCxDESIGN will present special programs to support the city’s hospitality landscape during this crucial time of revival. STAYxDESIGN provides for accommodations in places like Ace Hotel, Arlo, and the CIVILIAN Hotel recently designed by architect David Rockwell, where remarkable design is the core of hospitality experience. Moreover, DRINKSxDESIGN will underline a group of design-centric restaurants and bars offering custom-made cocktails served exclusively during the festival.
NYCxDESIGN continues its expedition to empower and support New York City’s design sector, the heart of the city’s identity. Established in 2013, the renowned Annual Design Festival is a hub for talent and national and international participation. Apart from generating noteworthy economic activity in the city, the non-profit organization also actively encourages diversity, equitable opportunity, and inclusion in the professional space. NYCxDESIGN is a catalyst educating young adults about design and inspiring them to uphold and become the future of their city’s design.
