Renowned champagne house, Maison Perrier-Jouët will present an interactive installation by mischer'traxler at the 17th edition of Design Miami/. The interactive installation will remain on display from the 1st of December until the 5th of December. In response to this year’s theme ‘Humankind’ by Design Miami/, mischer'traxler studio has created an installation that will make the viewer ponder over the interconnectedness between humans and nature.
Vienna-based studio, mischer'traxler was established in 2009 by Austrian designers Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler. They mainly design furniture items and installations. Their designs are usually inspired by nature and are developed with a craft-based approach that also incorporates the latest technology.
In keeping with both, the theme of the Design Miami/ festival and their own style, the designer duo has come up with an installation where more than 100 artistic representations of species from around the world are suspended in space. One can see both flora) and fauna, represented in the same size throughout the installation, such that both the small microbes and the large animals can be viewed clearly.
The installation demands the emotional investment of the viewer in order for them to properly experience the work of art.
“This emotional dimension is essential in our view. It is what captures the attention of the viewer, making them more receptive to the educational and philosophical message of the work. We are designers, not scientists. It is important therefore to remember that Embodied Nature is an artwork, the result of a creative interpretation. It gives us, for instance, the freedom to represent species alongside one another that would never be a part of the same ecosystem in the real world,” the designers explain.
‘Embodied Nature’ has been made out of small, handmade, colourful wire-mesh sculptures. The designers also used contemporary methods such as laser-cutting, tracking software, and real-time animation to produce the final interactive installation.
The curator of the exhibition, Maison Perrier-Jouët, is a well-known champagne house that was founded in 1811. The brand, while adapting to environmentally conscious methods, aspires for a sustainable future and showcasing mischer'traxler’s limited edition installation at the upcoming festival is a move in the same direction. Maison Perrier-Jouët’s exhibition at Design Miami/ will also comprise the tasting of a few of their vintage champagnes and a special cuisine by Sophia Roe, who is a chef, epicurean and artist.
The installation is open for viewing from 1 December to 5 December 2021 at the Design Miami festival at the Miami Beach in Florida, United States.
