UK-based furniture company, Silverlining Furniture has launched two finishes, which incorporate lighting: ‘Monochromatic Glow’ and ‘Luminous Pebble’. The two finishes are examples of the innovative possibilities when commissioning furniture pieces from Silverlining Furniture.

Working with light and shadow is a passion we all share at Silverlining Furniture. Taking that interest further, in the recent collections we started to experiment with artificial light, introducing LED backlights at the heart of the designs. This enables us to create modern furniture pieces, which change their nature from dusk to dawn, in turn affecting the ambience of spaces they’re in,” asserts Mark Boddington, founder of Silverlining Furniture, explaining the concept that guides the design team.

Silverlining Furniture, a furniture company based in Wrexham, North Wales, UK, is one of the leading names in the furniture design industry across the globe. The design firm creates museum-quality furniture pieces for both residential and commercial spaces as well as high-end leisure spaces like galleries, yachts and private jets. Their products range from tables and cabinets, bar designs, sculpted out from natural materials like rare wood, leather and precious metals amongst others. This varied range of products owe their sophisticated appearance to the meticulous craftsmanship techniques and latest technologies that render it perfect.

‘Monochromatic Glow’, part of the Provenance collection, launched by the furniture design company this year, is a black coloured piece inspired by constructivist art. Created out of several intersecting planar sheets that are made out of a combination of soft fir wood and a smart material called Fenix, it is populated by straight intersecting lines that segregate each sheet into different fractals, with each fractal carrying a different texture from its adjacent one.

Each planar sheet that populates the installation has 3D triangular-shaped perforations, through which LED backlights illuminate the space around with shards of light.

“In this design, we combine knowledge of natural processes and growth cycles of trees, with the application of high-tech materials,” says Jim Birch, Silverlining’s head of design, about the finish.

The other finish in a form of a ‘Luminous Pebble’, created as part of the Elements of Time collection borrows inspiration from the bioluminescent light found in oceans and recreates them with the help of different coloured translucent veneer layers that are illuminated by soft backlights and bordered by a wood frame. The English white ash wood that holds the centrally located luminaire has been chip-carved, thus adding a beautiful rough texture to it. Since the LED lights are fixed inside the wooden piece, the finish can be applied as a coffee table. This confluence of lighting with carved wood lends a dual identity to the overall sculptural piece.

Other interesting finishes that were launched as part of the Provenance collection and the Elements of Time collection by the furniture design company include Aztec Apexes and Azure Depths, Ammonite Shore, Floating Feathers, Fluid Contours, Molten Helix, Big Bang, Falling Feathers and Glacial Shift.
