Andrés Reisinger's latest furniture design collection, created for Gallery Collectional, is a series of products conceptualised in response to winter's slow descent. Unambiguously titled Winter Collection, the limited-edition furniture series is defined by gentle textures and soft, amiable hues. This collection, conceptualised by the Argentinian visual artist and designer, was recently displayed as part of a solo exhibition at Gallery Collectional in Dubai, UAE, from February 6 - 22, 2025. Other displays at the art and design gallery included a series of digital artworks by Reisinger.
"I am thrilled to collaborate with Gallery Collectional once again. Our first project together, Sun/Leaf, drew inspiration from the playful beauty of nature, evoking a sense of another season. This time, we're embarking on a journey into the serene magic, quiet stillness and [the] comforting essence of winter. When creating interior pieces, warmth is the feeling we aim to evoke—a harmonious contrast to the chill of the season. I was intrigued by the interplay of these ideas and embraced the challenge," Reisinger shares.
Following the success of Winter House (a virtual residence co-designed with architect Alba de la Fuente in January 2022), Reisinger once again turned to winter as his muse for this series. The pieces in the Winter Collection capture the quiet descent of the cold when frost-dusted whites and silvery blues envelop the world. With this collection, Reisinger conceives a warm sanctuary where the body and soul can rest during cold winter months.
Stationed within the brightly lit Gallery Collectional, one could adequately grasp the furry details of each piece. Slathered in soft upholstery and cushiony fabric, the pieces manage to imbue a great degree of warmth and softness even within the rigidly laid out white box expanse of the exhibition space. The absolute aura of the Winter Collection, however, manifests veritably within warmly lit indoor spaces. It is within spaces such as these that the folds, curves and unevenness of the product designs cast playful shadows, further enhancing their appearances. This play of contrasts, washed up in warm hues, ignites a certain curiosity and consequently, attracts people toward the sculptural furniture pieces. At the same time, the contrasting effect imbues the illusion of quiescent corners waiting to cradle us during the unrelenting cold months.
The Winter Collection comprises a sofa, an armchair, a room divider, a lamp and a blanket. The Winter Sofa, defined by sculptural and dramatic curves, is inspired by the delicate dance of light across a winter sky. Its silhouette echoes the fluidity of the northern lights, which consequently helps evoke a sense of both visual and tactile warmth and comfort. On the other hand, its curves are also reminiscent of snowdrifts shaped by the winter winds. This combination of warm and resilient features in the sofa design culminates in an oasis-like object that one can sink into.
Complementing the Winter Sofa is the Snowdrop Armchair. With its cocoon-like form, the armchair, exhibiting Reisinger's characteristic aesthetic, presents a comforting space to lounge in. With its textured surface, the chair design evokes the interwoven layers of frost. "Beneath this icy and concurrently inviting façade lies a surprising softness, embodying the contrast of warmth nestled within winter's embrace," reads an excerpt from the official press release.
Similarly, the design of Bow Divider is inspired by fractured ice formations. Its translucent surface allows light to filter through it and cast intricate patterns on adjacent walls and floors. It is designed to serve as both a functional room divider and a piece of art. Much like the sofa and the armchair, the geometric textures of Bow Divider, clubbed with its translucent materiality, create a sense of depth and movement when illuminated with low-intensity warm light.
In contrast to the curves of the seating surfaces, The Lamp stands tall, defined by a rectilinear form. It is designed to cast a gentle, diffused glow around it, evoking the warmth of the winter sun. Once again, the textures that characterise the lamp design are soft and fabric-like, casting subtle shadows on its surface.
Lastly, Blanket is a tactile piece of fabric that bears a resemblance to the surface of the Snowdrop Armchair reminiscent of snow-dusted fields or branches covered in frost. The Blanket manages to reference wintry landscapes while bearing a lightweight mien. "Draped over the body, it offers the same quiet comfort as freshly fallen snow, weaving together nature's textures into a deeply personal, physical connection," the gallery shares.
Reisinger, hence, manages to blend the contrasting effects of frost and fire as well as structure and fluidity in the five showcased pieces. The Winter Collection, inspired by nature's dramatic yet tender processes, posits its design on reimagining winter with ample references and as moments to be cherished and celebrated amid physical and aesthetic comfort.
