Nilufar Gallery has recently redesigned their central hall in collaboration with the Kings duo Federica Perazzoli and Daniele Innamorato. The installation, occupying the central hall, was conceptualised by Perazzoli and Innamorato, drawing inspiration from the interiors of warehouses. The designers have filled the hall with large Situèr shelves that hold a myriad collection of old and new books and magazines printed by independent publishers. “Together with Kings, we imagined a truly unique cultural space that offers visitors the opportunity to connect with the place itself and the culture contained in it, an inspirational collection of publications and rare books,” says Nina Yashar.

Kings, an art project started by Federica Perazzoli and Daniele Innamorato in the year 2000, aims at drawing together the work of all fellow artists and designers from different creative fields. The project brings together photography as well as sculptural works, installations as well as merchandise, and books as well as self-published magazines. Operating on the concept of utilising unconventional items to make sculptures and unlikely compositions to draft out posters, Kings’ artistic expression transcends the boundaries that artistic creations are often relegated to.

The redesign of Nilufar gallery’s Depot serves as a crossover between an art installation and a concept store. With an aim to foster creativity and stir conversations on culture, the redesigned space offers books, catalogues and magazines on diverse topics, ranging from design, architecture and home decor to art, photography and fashion.

Speaking about their inspiration for the project, the artistic duo shared, “Over the past years, we have been engulfed in books, it was a compulsion, an obsession.” The couple wanted books to be the focal point of the space and reading and sharing ideas an essential part of experiencing the space.

Nilufar’s intention behind introducing books as a big part of their refurbished hall is to welcome the visitors to the literary world where they can understand the selection of artworks collected by the founder and owner of the gallery, Nina Yashar over the years. “I see Depot as an ever-changing space, I believe ‘cross-contamination’ between different worlds is key to fostering creative dialogue in the industry. Over the past years, the hall has hosted dinner parties, concerts, DJ sets, amazing artists, performances and a lot more,” shares Nina Yashar.

Apart from the heavily laden bookshelves, the central hall also comprises two luminous installations that were created with the support of Viasaterna gallery and several other furniture pieces and design objects.

The installation is open to the public from 3rd December 2021 to 27th February 2022 at the Nilufar Depot, Viale Lancetti 34, Milan, Italy.
