Nilufar is excited to collaborate with the new, much-anticipated design hub Nilaya Anthology by Asian Paints in Mumbai, India, a truly unique endeavour launching this weekend, on March 1, 2025. This partnership will showcase a 'carefully selected range' from the Milan-based design gallery, including vintage, contemporary and Nilufar Edition works, all thoughtfully integrated into distinct displays within the exhibition space.
With an identity born of three creative investigations—Curation, Creation and Experience, Nilaya Anthology is a 100,000-square-foot 'décor haven' promising to congregate the finest design stories from India and the world. According to Asian Paints, India's leading paint and décor company, this design destination, led by creative director Pavitra Rajaram, is set to feature a curated selection of collectible crafts and contemporary designs, allowing visitors to explore a diverse range of items and product designs, pertaining to kitchenware, bathware, antiques and art, under one roof. The sprawling store, designed by acclaimed Indian architect Rooshad Shroff, features large open areas combined with intimate settings that encourage exploration and conversation.
Curated by Nina Yashar, gallerist, collector, patron as well as one of 'the most pioneering tastemakers in the world of contemporary design', and the founder of Nilufar Gallery in Italy, each display at the design retail experience will create a distinct atmosphere, mood and sensibility, capturing the eclectic essence of design and its diverse narratives. "The result is a dynamic presentation that transcends geographical boundaries, conjuring diverse domestic scenarios within a single space. This [design] exhibition marks a pivotal milestone as it represents the debut of Nilufar in India," Nilufar states in an official press release.
Yashar's admiration for India goes beyond design; it encompasses the country's rich culture and enduring traditions. She is especially drawn to Indian design and its innovative use of materials. As she puts it, "I've developed a deep affinity for the materials so integral to Indian design, such as bronze and brass and their distinct applications within the craft. The meticulous attention to even the smallest detail speaks volumes about the care and reverence inherent in the process."
Amit Syngle, CEO and MD of Asian Paints, notes that the partnership is a mark of the role Nilaya Anthology will play in the Indian design segment. "Nilaya Anthology is a cultural catalyst and a transformative space. Our collaboration with Nilufar exemplifies our mission to bring the best global design to India," he shares.
Equally inspiring to Yashar is Indian design's bold use of colour, which strongly resonates with her Persian heritage. The vibrant interplay of hues and symbolic motifs creates a dialogue between the two cultures that honour beauty, tradition and storytelling while reflecting on the past and embracing the future. "This personal connection to India invites me to explore a shared language of aesthetics and tradition, fusing my roots with the unique artistry of a land that continues to profoundly inspire me," Yashar relays.
Some of the diverse lighting, product and furniture designs on display include the Folding Chair from the Nilufar Vintage Collection (20th Century), the Palm floor lamp (2017) by Michael Anastassiades, the Triple Wall Lamp Bon Bon (2021) and the Double Wall Lamp Bon Bon (2021) by Bethan Laura Wood, the Groove Carpet (2023) by Martino Gamper and the Flora Low Table, the Chaise Longue Flora Mod.1 and the Chaise Longue Flora Mod. 2 (2022) by Khaled El Mays.
