Sten Studio, a design laboratory based in Mexico City, presents Cosmic Resonance at Alcova during Milan Design Week 2025. Featuring 11 side tables and 10 totems crafted from natural stones, the exhibition explores the divine and abstract forces of the cosmos, bridging the celestial and the earthly in a unique dialogue of design.
‘Cosmic Resonance’: A journey between the divine and the human
In a world where the divine, the eternal and the abstract often seem distant from our daily lives, Cosmic Resonance invites reflection on the profound connection between the cosmos and human creation. Bridging the vastness of the universe with the intimate human experience, the design exhibition in Milan, Italy, explores unseen forces that shape our reality and invites a deeper understanding of our place within this grand narrative.
The story begins with the cosmic—the infinite, the celestial and the timeless. Ancient civilisations have always looked to the heavens, finding meaning and guidance in the alignment of planets, stars and celestial bodies. Cosmic Relics arises from this reverence, a tribute to the mystical power of the universe and the eternal forces that bind all existence. Each of the 10 totems in this collection is more than an object; it is a symbol of the profound interconnectedness of the cosmos and humanity. Crafted from natural stones, these totems represent different facets of life, from the grounding force of volcanic stone to the clarity of fluorite. Together, they embody the diversity of the universe and the shared thread that connects all beings.
As we transition from the abstract to the tangible, Cosmic Traces emerges. This collection represents the transformation of cosmic energy into human creation. It is a testament to how the divine inspiration of the cosmos is channeled through human hands, transforming raw materials into meaningful, functional forms. The 11 table designs in Cosmic Traces become the physical manifestation of celestial movements—each stone placement mirroring the dance of the stars, the paths of planets and the subtle influence of the universe on human life. Here, the abstract becomes real and the energy that once existed only in the intangible becomes something we can touch, observe and engage with.
Together, these two collections form a resonance—an echo between the divine and the human, the celestial and the earthly, the eternal and the transient. Cosmic Resonance is not just a presentation of art and design; it is an exploration of the intersection between the cosmic and the human, the abstract and the tangible, capturing the transformative power of creation. Through this exhibition on view through the design fair, the dialogue between cosmic inspiration and human craftsmanship invites the audience to consider the influence of the cosmos on our lives and our ability to shape the world around us.
The artistic direction for Cosmic Resonance was led by Jorge Brown, who further amplifies this narrative. The space is conceived as an immersive labyrinth, where the pieces of Cosmic Relics and Cosmic Traces are placed on metallic pedestals, inviting the viewer to navigate between them. A soft, pastel blue sand flows across the floor, creating a connection between the celestial and the earthly and subtly guiding the visitor’s journey. The soundscape, inspired by cosmic and galactic tones, envelops the space, offering an auditory experience that heightens the sense of being part of a larger, timeless universe. This visual and sensory approach enhances the exhibition’s exploration of the cosmic forces that shape our lives, offering visitors of the design week an immersive experience of resonance, both visual and emotional.
