Italian designer Luca Nichetto has precise ideas when he approaches any new design project. Deliberate in methodology; he is determined to incorporate utility, adaptability, and sophistication into his concepts. This thoughtful approach resulted in Jackson, Nichetto’s latest seating collection for Bernhardt Design. “I hope Jackson will become the new ‘Office Nomad,’ a chair that easily moves around spaces and will always be there when you need it,” shares Nichetto.
When this project began, the designer and his team channelled the 1970’s as a point of reference. “This was a period when furniture was unassuming, honest, and didn’t telegraph a ‘mechanical/machinery’ appearance,” says the Italian designer. “Without compromising aesthetics, it is challenging to integrate casters and tablets into a fully upholstered lounge chair. I’m optimistic that Jackson succeeds as a simple and elegant, as well as sensible piece, that is very useful in today’s environment,” he says.
Constructed of molded foam, Jackson has an economical and streamlined silhouette, while being ergonomically comfortable. The chair is lightweight yet substantial and is an adaptable chameleon in diverse surroundings. A contrasting welt along the perimeter adds a unique detail that elevates the piece above the predictable. In addition to its mobile and work applications, the stationary version is a striking conventional lounge chair.
“Luca has designed some very memorable collections of furniture in his career,” says Jerry Helling, President of Bernhardt Design. “For this category of product, he made a great call by letting this chair be quiet and unassuming. This design is a textbook case where the form is perfectly matched with the function. The chairs blend into the setting - as they should - rather than screaming for attention. Jackson reminds me a great deal of Luca himself, who moves seamlessly between Venice and Stockholm,” he shares.
The collection features a menu of options including casters, stationary glides and both right and left-hand tablets.
The chair is available in any Bernhardt Textiles, leather, leather alternatives, or the customer’s own material (COM). Tablets are offered in natural oak, natural walnut and white solid surface.
