During the museum summer closure, Poltrona Frau Custom Interiors fulfils a commissioner's dream. The curators of MAXXI – The National centre for the Contemporary Art and Architecture – in Rome, entrusted Poltrona Frau with the renovation of the Auditorium's seating.
216 Kube seats in Pelle Frau®, designed by the EOOS Studio and inspired by the terraces of an amphitheatre. The particular closing mechanism recreates a suspended architecture in which the individual seat is lost in the row and creates a compact and linear module. The Kube seat has an elegant and original design, and was recipient of the Compasso d'oro award in 2004.
In addition of the typical brand logo imprinted on the back, for this project Poltrona Frau personalised the product by inserting the logo of the MAXXI foundation.
The turnkey project included a service to dismantle the hall and install the new seats.
The realization of the MAXXI begun in 2003, based on a project of the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, in response to a competition launched by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage to create a new national museum dedicated to contemporary arts.
The MAXXI design goes beyond the concept of the building-museum. The complexity of the volumes, the curving walls, the variations and intersections of the levels determine a very rich spatial and functional configuration that visitors may pass through via ever different and unexpected routes.
Multiple environments coexist in a sequence of galleries, an atrium for reception services and leading into the auditorium, the galleries destined for the permanent collections, the exhibitions and the spaces devoted to the cafeteria and the bookshop.
